I caught a thief, i bashed a thief, but now i feel sorry for him

Cut long story short, had a thief steal some money from my work in the middle of night, caught on CCTV. he was stupid enough to return the next night and i was waiting.

 

Funny enough returned at the very same time. 

 

Being in rage, i bashed him, unlike most members here who were SAS, or Delta or SWAT, i am just a regular, guy, was blessed with heavy hands and having spend some time in jails in 3 countries, learned how to use it very well

 

I did not hurt him badly as i only slapped him, but each slap was a knockdown.

 

Anyhow, why am i posting? After my rage subdued, and my brain turned back on, it was a young and i mean young, possibly even 16-17 year old boy, ladyboyish.

 

In addition to being young, he was homeless. After he ran away, he left his bag, and besides some 25-50 satang coins which he stole the previous night(just to be clear, he stoke the full jar of coins, which had 5 baht, 2 baht and 1 baht and some satang) There was nothing in it but a bag of rice.

 

I feel so bad, if he only asked for help, i would have given him food and drink and place to sleep.

 

I understand why he stole, but stealing is not the right way, but then he is a young kid, may be ran away from home, or family kicked him out.

 

Whats done is done, and can not be undone, his/her bag and shoes still outside and he/she is too scared or too hurt to return, but i still feel bad

 

Not so much for hurting him, but for not helping him. I am considering riding around trying to find him and offer to help him with a place to stay and food.

 

I am broke, but i can still offer some help and at least he will have a safe place to stay and keep clean whenever he needs it

 

Am i crazy to feel this way?

much of this does not make sense: regular guys have not done jail time in 3 countries, or even one country..

I think you reaction was not so strange bit of anger of theft combined with adrenaline and then it happens. Then you don't think.

My initial thoughts was it was just a thieving ladyboy, only after knocking him down and seeing him clearly and his bag when i realised it was just a kid(still ladyboyish, which explains why initial thoughts) and a homeless kid,

correct - in my world, and I know a lot of people - I do not know anyone who went to jail in 3 different countries - especially for jay-walking... you went for jaywalking? - is that what you are saying? 

 

if you are giving half a momma noodle and that is all you have, good for you - but how do you survive here? And surely I give hand to hand far far more than a cup of noodles... and on a regular basis... 

 

obviously your first response is to "bash" - then go and make yourself out to be such a kindly soul afterwards... and you admit to planning your attack - so, you pre-meditatively planned a way to bash someone - didi you expect it to be some rich guy? or professional car thief?

Hitting youngsters is nothing to the proud of , especially if they are desperate and hungry .

   You seem rather proud of the fact that you beat a youngster .

   These are desperate times for some people , you should have shown some compassion and tried to help .

There is always a clown in each crowd and here you are.

 

Which area do you live in? will put up a sign for any future thief to head over your way, will be safe there , you will first allow them to steal and then also show compassion.

Obviously you have led a blameless life never suffered at the hands of criminals, if you had you would know how the feeling of violatoin after finding your the victim of the scum that enter other people's private property to go through their belongings at take what thet want, I have in my lifetime worked very hard to provide myself with nice things to enhance mine and my family's lives to be the victim of a burglary which I have suffered 4 times in my time is a terrible feeling and if I was ever to this day get my hands on the vile miscreants by Christ they wouldn't half get a good beating,  never judge a man til you have walked in his shoes.

So you viewed the video from the first night and saw it was just a kid , may have been a girl and you waiting up all night to attack him/her and then go online to boast about your fighting skills and how tough you are ?

Considering the plight of many Thais - desperation comes to mind - and the apparent fact that you had 24 hours to think about why this person did what he did, no offense but I find your post to be a rather pathetic attempt to make yourself feel better.  Gave the little guy a good bashing did ya and now feeling sad for yourself?  Give me a break.  I hope you feel like s*** to be honest, maybe next time you will think before you act.

Whatever happened , he is/was a thief and new the risks . Do i feel sorry for him , nope . You didn't kill him and neither send him to hospital , and yes he might be hungry and homeless , but there are more respectful ways then stealing .The biggest criminals all started small , as you should know since you have been in jail 3 times. In this case , personally i find it correct , and just maybe he thinks twice before stealing again .

You did nothing wrong!  Somebody broke into your shop.  What were your options?   Tell the police to do a drive by throughout the night?  I'm surprised he showed up again and why you expected him to but sure you had your reasons.

 

What I find odd is how much thrill some get in bashing you when they really have zero clue of what went down with the exception of what you told them.

Desperation is no excuse, and if the kid was hungry why did he not go to the temple?

 

Having been brought up when corporal punishment was normal, I don't think a few slaps are bashing. A bashing would result in a hospital stay, IMO.

 

I'm sure that most of us have regrets about something in our lives, unless living a very quiet life and not doing much.

Nocturnal? Get your point though.  Good chance you would have a general idea of the size but adjusting to inputs when adrenaline is flowing is not that easy for most.

Some criminals are just lazy people that do not want to work. Plenty of jobs usually in construction - maybe the 'kid' did not want to work like a migrant

What strikes me as weird is that, all of as sudden, people seem to believe that there can be an excuse for breaking, entering and stealing form someone's property.

Migrant construction work Vs Stealing Vs Swallowing the barrel of a gun.  Option 3 I think. Hell can't be all that bad of a place.  Has to be less hot than up on scaffolding in Bangkok.

Think about it one more time, violence and you should have learned it only leads to violence. If he comes back with a weapon to kill you I wouldn't be surprised, many have died for much less.
