I am looking to change my computer this week and thinking about an ACER Aspire C24-420 all in one.( around 19,000 baht) Have any of you guys bought one?

I am no expert on a computer but can find my way around one.

It is purely domestic use and for the little business I do. It is not for graphics use nor gaming purposes. I don't want to spend big money but I don't want rubbish that I will have to replace in a year either.

I just want a nice, neat new computer that is relatively sturdy for day to day use and decent memory. It's only documents, photos, emails, nothing special, although I spend plenty time browsing.

Are there any obvious disadvantages in an All in one compared to a tower style version with monitor?

It's just a matter of less space and bigger screen than the portable one

Hi,

Yeah, I don't need a laptop, I had one and gave it away as I never used it. For travelling, I just use a tablet and my phone.

I was thinking, less space and sleeker as I use it in the corner of my lounge here.

And expensive to repair when they break.

A friend of mine had an older model. I never forget. To replace the CMOS battery we had to send it to an Acer service center. It still had warranty and therefore we could not open it and change the battery. You needed to remove some things to get to the battery.

My opinion only.

An all-in-one has all the disadvantages of a desktop (not portable) AND all the disadvantages of a laptop (expensive to repair).

I would go and buy a decent monitor and stick a NUC or similar unlta-small computer on the VESA mounts on the back of the monitor (make sure you get a monitor with them of course). Same outline as an all-in-one.

Screen fails or need a bigger screen, just buy a new one and move the computer over.

I tend to agree with Crossy.  I do like and am using the Acer Swift.  Small enough to be handy for travelling but while I'm stuck in Canada I use it to stream and cast it to whatever I want. It hasn't moved for a couple of months, just streaming internet.

Which processor and how much ram has the one you are considering?

Agree makes sense to buy mini computer these days, B-Max is an inexpensive model sold here from China as well as several others at less price than NUC but should be fine.  And not even sure I would buy a monitor as they should work well with any HD TV set at much less cost if you want large screen (should be fine for normal computer work).  They come with Windows built in and if you need more storage easy to install more SSD or attach a hard drive.  If computer fails you buy another - if TV fails you buy another.   And you have portability if ever needed as easy to attach to any TV set with HDMI connections.

I continue to wait for my 9 year old Lazada all in one to bite the dust to do this myself

I bought an Acer Aspire a few years back top model at over 30k, it lasted 3 years after 2 repairs then needed a new motherboard, so not worth doing. Would never buy another Acer but I read they improved the quality. You don't see many old ones around, unlike some other makes.

HTH does one erase a duplicate post???

If within time limit you edit (more options top right) and remove text and just say dupe or something - there is no way for sender to remove the actual post.

Of course I hid the other one ????

Now restored.

It's probably best to hit the "Report" button on the post you want removed, then we kill the right one ????

DON'T BUY ONE!!!!

A bigger heap of garbage I have never had.

I bought one because I was looking for a cheap laptop come iPad thinggy. Thought it would be just the thing for the rare occasions I travel from the Kingdom.

From the start it had power on issues. So sent it back and they replaced the power supply with the incorrect one. Sent it back and took a good while as I had to drive to the Acer agent in Kalasin (if I remember) who had to send it (for a fee) to Acer Bangkok.

So after all this the Windows operating system has all this Acer <deleted> interfacing with it and hopeless. Really needs a complete wipe and reinstall.

The removable iPad hinge became really stiff and unusable and the cover would not attach as the batteries has swelled.

I would never buy another Acer anything.

They should have improved the quality long time ago already. Look at my Acer monitor - the screen got waves. My notebook - immediately at the beginning the hard drive had to be replaced, the keyboard had to be replaced and has now problems again, one speaker doesn't work anymore. And I almost never used it. The new hard drive has a run time of several days and this after years. I also have a PC and a tablet and mostly use these.

Agree with Lopburi3 , I would go with a mini PC and separate monitor,

you can have a larger monitor if you want,,and fix PC to rear of

monitor to save space, but if one breaks you only have to replace or

repair one or the other,I have several mini PC's ,bit of a hobby.

Laptop just a few days ago got a blue screen and will not start up.....

Acer Aspire 4720 the warranty appears to have run out....  sticker says Nov 2551  ????  13 years ?

So yes it is old, the back is still sealed it has never been opened, nothing has ever gone wrong with it, battery last for 7 mins only but always used plugged in for past 6 years.

Downside - very slow - still on XP

Guess needs a new hard drive ? but is it worth it ?

So YES would buy another Acer......

Tablet - bought a Samsung = expensive - spent more time at Samsung service center that at home, after warranty ran out packed up again = sat in desk drawer, will not charge will not switch on.. = NO will not buy another Samsung.

I've had 2 Acer Aspire laptops. I've used both for 10 years and they have been completely reliable. I finally gave the 1st one away because it was getting short of memory.

The second one, which I'm using right now, has been upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 and has has one battery replacement. It is still utterly reliable and when it come to buying a new one I will stick with Acer.

My one one observation regarding the O/Ps choice is that it doesn't have a back up battery. I was reminded just yesterday, when we had a 2 hour power cut how useful a battery can be.
