Thailand on Monday (August 9) reported 19,603 new COVID-19 cases and 149 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 19,290 new infections

● 313 prison / prison infections

Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 776,108 with 6,353 deaths.
(Total infections since April 1: 747,245)

The news comes as the Public Health Ministry has decided to allow health units to administer Favipiravir to all groups of COVID-19 patients, including those currently under home and community isolation.

Public Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Kiattiphum Wongworajit said the ministry has adjusted a plan to administer the antiviral drug to speed up and widen its coverage to all groups of COVID-19 patients so as to handle soaring new cases and deaths.

He said as of August 4, demand for the drug has risen to 850,000 tablets per day, with 760,000 tablets distributed in Bangkok.

Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG) chairman Dr. Boon Vanasin looked like a saint and savior to many people when he began fearlessly pushing to procure mRNA vaccines three months ago. But those same people are now wondering if they placed their trust in the wrong guy.

Total of 19,603 new infections, with 313 of those from prison and 19,290 in the community. 149 covid deaths recorded. Weekend effect still in play or is this a flatline period we will now see for a few days?

The above official new cases do not include new positive counts from Rapid Tests.

Rapid test positive:
Total number of cases inclusive of rapid test:

Rolling 7 day average (up to 7th Aug) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases from daily official announcements.

Just get a real sheet, presenting the real numbers instead of an average that is blamed on limited testing. If they want to blame it on limited testing, the numbers should be higher instead.

The graph of the 7 day average in Sisaket - coming down I hope

Good but too early to get your skis out. The slope might yet turn up.

Figures could rise again later in the week as the weekend has only just passed.

If still going down on Thursday a bit more reason for hope.

Sure - also included are the relocates from BKK and other deep dark red places, these could act as a distortion.

From the linked article:

"Apart from booking Moderna shots for THG hospitals via the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO), Boon strongly implied he was in talks with BioNTech, the co-producer of the Pfizer vaccine."

Excellent news. Looks like the curve is flattening and the peak may have been reached.
