U.S. CDC urges avoiding travel to Thailand over COVID-19

Featured Replies

Looking at the huge amount of cases in the USA .

Telling people to avoid travelling to Thailand is a bit like a really rough hooker insisting you wear a condom.

With the USA posting the most cases for the last few days I'd imagine those countries are saying don't go to the USA !

Why is that?

Another surge.

Many more countries will be added soon.

I'm sure its not an anti-Semitic thing.

Many reasons for this not including vaccinations could be lack of hospital beds for a particular country.

I think because Gaza and the West Bank are considered part of Isreal for this purpose and vaccination rates there are relatively low.

What will be the impact on the sandpit in Phuket????

CDC is about as credible as a unicorn in my favourite pub now closed with the unicorn inside. This has now become a political issue. CDC has very little credibility, very little credibility.

the CDC is right in there with the UN, WHO, WTO, etc...  it is incredible how far the CDC has fallen.  used to be a respected institution.  the CDC had some trouble early on in producing the test kits for the virus.  one would hope the CDC could handle that task with ease.

Why would anyone come over at this time? With bars, enetertaiment areas, malls,  restaurants closed or limited to take out. Curfue and interprovencil buses and trains closed  I have told friends (1  who is retiring) to wait till later

Excellent. More egg on the faces of the clowns. Pain is sometimes required to bring about real change and reform. Much pain will be felt here, before all this craziness is over.

Humiliate the leaders here to no end. See ya! You are almost gone. Bye. You will not be missed by anyone.

"Whataboutism" is rampant here. The message here is that Covid is out of control in Thailand, and the US has issued a travel warning for that reason. And it's fair enough too Anyone who travels here will face 2 week quarantine, closed restaurants, bars, relations and entertainment venues. Tourist operations all shut. Unless you want to come and sit in a Sandbox Hotel for 2 weeks. There is basically zero reason to come to Thailand right now, and a whole bunch of Covid Delta variant reasons not to.

Get putting Thailand on the list as their figures cannot be trusted but the US should be a red on all countries’ advisories due to high numbers and slow uptake.

Israel had ZERO infections and covid deaths just 2-3 months ago, after a succesfull

Pfizer vaccination campain.

than israel opened everything and lifted all restrictions.

now israel has one of the highest infection rates in the world.

today 5400 new cases were recorded. it is like 150,000 daily in USA.

The data below shows the vaccination campaign in Israel DID work...though there has been a resurgence lately linked to the Delta variant. But look at where hospitalizations and per capita COVID deaths are in Israel right now versus where they were in the past.

'Vaccines Work, No Doubt About It': Israel’s Top COVID Expert Answers Your Questions

In a Q&A with Haaretz readers, Prof. Ran Balicer explains what Israel needs to do better to stop the next variant from running rampant and says we should get used to the idea of COVID booster shots

Aug. 5, 2021

Haaretz hosted Prof. Ran Balicer, the chairman of Israel’s expert panel on COVID-19, for a special Zoom briefing Wednesday on the delta variant’s spread in Israel and the impact of the country’s vaccination effort.

Israel was lauded as a global leader in vaccinations and deemed “the first country in the world to get over COVID.” But in recent weeks, the delta variant has taken the country by storm and its spread has forced Israel’s new government to bring back old restrictions – and even float the idea of another national lockdown.

"As of August 8, the ministry recorded 85.6 severe COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people among the unvaccinated over the age of 60, compared to 16.3 per 100,000 people among the fully vaccinated. This makes the unvaccinated elderly more than five times as likely to experience a severe case than their immunized counterparts.

For those under the age of 60, the rate of severe illness among the unvaccinated stood at 1.4 cases per 100,000 people – 2.8 times more than the 0.5 per 100,000 among those who received two doses of the vaccine."

well it is just starting mate, just starting unfortunately.

it is happaning right now. double of infections every two weeks.

hospitals starts filing up, some announced they will not get

new patients.

governments will not admit it because it is scary indeed, but vaccines do

not really work. just like we can see in thailand and the U.S. right now.

The graphs above show the vaccine argument you're making is simply not true...

However, being fully vaccinated does not make anyone invincible, especially as regards the Delta variant, which is the issue in Israel and many other places including Thailand right now.

New research out of England suggests that people who are fully vaccinated can have just as high viral rates of Delta as those who have not been vaccinated, meaning both groups can spread the virus to others.

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/england-says-delta-infections-produce-similar-virus-levels-regardless-vaccine-2021-08-06/

However, as the Israel data I posted above clearly shows, the likelihood of a fully vaccinated person requiring hospitalization because of Delta is magnitudes less compared to an unvaccinated person.

"As of August 8, the ministry recorded 85.6 severe COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people among the unvaccinated over the age of 60, compared to 16.3 per 100,000 people among the fully vaccinated. Repeating unfounded claims that vaccines don't work in Israel a second time doesn't make them any more true than the first time.

Plus the immunity level given depends on the vaccine !!!!

No point boasting nearly 70% have been given something that in reality is doesn't work and is useless.

Well the line of discussion stemmed from the situation in Israel, who have not used Sino vaccines.

The UK will likely add Thailand to its red list countries at the next review if the rate of infection continues. Then everyone returning from Thailand will have to pay £2k for quarantine

That's what's stopping me and several friends from planning trips to Thailand in the foreseeable future.

especially as regards the Delta variant

There is pretty much only the delta variant in many regions of the world at the moment.

This will change in due course when it mutates again and again, etc.

What we need is a variant which spreads like wildfire AND doesn't really kill many people, I'm sure this will come along, it's just a matter of when...

The cult is strong with you!

First you need to define "work".

If you are expecting no infections or transmission then of course they don't "work".

If you mean they don't reduce hospitalizations and deaths of vaccinated people then that is a bold statement indeed. Unfortunately these kind of anti vax statements are ALWAYS A CROC OF <deleted>.

as usual I will give a chance to show the source of this devastating revelation.

So please provide a link or two to reputable sites with the studies that prove your claim.

it is logical that vaccination effort around the worlds is not going well.. Herd immunity has not been reached

In Thailand to have 6% of the population vaccinated.  there is a long way to go.

what I fear or predict that this virus will mutate again and who knows. what will happened.

Coming September, There will be a recommended  booster shot and hopefully a new  stronger vaccine will be available

When it beomces the same as a 'cold' then it's a cold. We're not there yet though.

Data can be gathered from largely unvaccinated countries which have widespread outbreaks of Delta and the next variants which will surely emerge in due course.

There are many such countries where hardly anyone is vaccinated and Delta is running rampant over the whole population.

Eventually someone will run the numbers and do proper national sero surveys....the only worry is that these numbers will be suppressed for some unimaginable reason.
