c) deep down how does the Thai mind accept this kind of thing (and they do just think it is their "normal")

That s an interesting question. I remember during the "Bangkok Shutdown" , which was supposed to lead to mass reforms, Jonathon Head interviewed Dr Seri Wongmontha on stage during a rally. Dr Seri minced a little about how "Thai people accept some corruption but Thaksin went overboard" then he went into full rant mode about how    "...... you have to understand the context of Thailand before you can talk about Thailand".

Basically saying that Thailand is partly about corruption.

There must be many others involved, like a ponzi scheme where each of those lower down gets a cut.

No way one could amass riches like this by himself without others being complicit or aware of such shakedowns.

His future is now the poster boy of Police corruption.

His future is more likely in a body bag...

Hasn't the Thailand Tax Division heard of lifestyle audits? Oh, sorry, that Division is is probably littered with corruption as well.

Another sad reminder that in Thailand, just as in any other plutocratic state, power means doing virtually whatever you please with little or no accountability.

Mueang Nakhon Sawan is obviously a lucrative posting for a ranking cop. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a queue already chomping at the bits for a transfer there..., hmm, that reminds me: the Thai Top Cop declared assets of over 100,000,000, he never explained how he got that, being a "good apple" and all.

Nose must be well out of joint. Appears one of his lackeys has that more than that in his car collection.

Torture death of drug suspect in Nakhon Sawan raises long-held suspicions on police corruption

High profile and wealthy former Police Colonel Thitisan Utthanaphon is on the run as the police zero in on his wealth after a shocking video clip showing him torturing a 24-year-old drug suspect, arrested on August 5th last in Nakhon Sawan, blew up his attempts to weave a web of deceit and cover-up what the National Police Commissioner General Suwat Jangyodsuk has described as a serious criminal act when he was seen torturing the bound suspect by applying a plastic bag to the man’s head.
