This handout from the Royal Thai Government taken and released on September 1, 2020 shows Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha speaking at a briefing on the Red Bull heir’s hit-and-run case at the Government House in Bangkok.

Seri Ruam Thai party leader Pol Gen Seripisut Temiyavet has accused Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of being the biggest borrower and spender of all Thailand’s prime ministers and of being incompetent and corrupt.

During the censure debate today (Tuesday), the former police chief said that, throughout the past seven years of his premiership, the prime minister has amassed borrowings totaling about 5.3 trillion baht, but a huge portion of that amount has been used to appease the military, to prop up his regime, by funding their arms procurement program.

He said that, while the Defence Ministry has been allotted a substantial budget without any tangible achievements, the Ministry of Public Health, which is tasked with looking after the safety of the people in the wake of the pandemic, has been allocated less money.

All good points well made.   Military spending out of control   RTP totally corrupt still.   Thai people not happy.   Vaccination roll-out seriously mishandled

  • I reckon if we ever get to see their bank accounts it will be clear they have achieved an absolute shed load...

  • Surely you misunderstand the complexities after all Thailand will soon be one of the regional submarine fleets and along with her carrier capability they will be feared and respected in equal measure

Surely you misunderstand the complexities after all Thailand will soon be one of the regional submarine fleets and along with her carrier capability they will be feared and respected in equal measure by all their neighbours...

Warning may contain traces of sarcasm...

Sadly, the body responsible for these accounts simply doesn't have the legal powers to release that information.....how odd?

The top 2, Prayut and Prawit have been exempted for the annual disclosures.  Ever since the friends watches debacle the bank accounts have swelled.  Prayut last was known to have over 2 billion in assets and funds, when just 7 years before when he started as the head of the Junta he only had 6 Million, of course all records of such have disappeared from the web where that info had been found.

Yeah strange eh, seem to remember the great leader wasn't impressed when asked about his wealth and threw a bit of a wobbly, could be forgiven for believing he might have something to hide...

Stamped out over priced lottery tickets for awhile but seems that is now being ignored.

Yes. I understand premium prices were being demanded for so called 'lucky numbers'.

Last poll:

90.64% cited the dishonest failures of the Thai government in coping with the pandemic, playing politics  and being hopeless in solving corruption issues.

The only question that arises is how do you get rid of the incapacity if it does not want to cede itself?

"Thai PM accused of being biggest borrower and spender, but with few achievements"

The Journalist obviously hasn't met my ex-wife.

...a little too obvious that 'the opposition' are being provided scripts, narratives and game plans by 'external forces'...

......???.....

Can someone guide me how Thai government borrowing work? Just wondering is it the same as the USA? Thanks
