In which case you'll then have the dreaded mandatory 400k/40k health insurance policy requirement to have to contend with. Easier said than done in practice, I suspect, to take out acceptable policies in our home countries in view of certification requirements which necessitate insurers being fully au fait with the provisions of some obscure Thai Cabinet resolution!

I'll probably get insurance here. I know it's something of a quagmire, but it's something I've been considering doing anyway.

It is if your Thai Wife works and chips in with the expenses.

Maybe you need a new Wife.

555, maybe your wife needs a new husband, mine doesn't have to work

Please note that the policy will need to be with one of the approved insurers listed on the TGIA website:-

If you're after a policy which does more than just ticking an Immigration box may I suggest one of the Pacific Cross policies listed in the following link, except for the Longstay Visa Platinum 1-3 ones which are rip-off's:-

If, like me, you have an aversion to dealing with insurance companies direct, I have personally found AA Insurance Brokers to be effective intermediaries:-

Thanks, last time I looked into this both Pacific Cross and AA were towards the top of the list, another was April. I've since seen Cigna which, if I understand correctly, has the advantage that they are legally obliged not to increase the premium after a claim, unlike Thai insurers who increase it as a matter of course.

Anyway, I'll review it all again a bit closer to the time.

I assume the 800k can be split on several Thai bank accounts at different banks? F.e. 450k at SCB and 350k at Kasikorn?

Is that correct?

I wouldn't do that.

Personally I use 2 accounts at same bank. That's only because one is FD and one savings.

Think you might find negativity to more accounts. Apart from that makes little sense.

That wasn't my question.

My question was if it can be done and it would be legal/accepted.

Thinking of moving to another bank and want to do that in the transition phase.

AND my first bank would have the proofs of international transfer, since the money came into the first bank and is then being transfered to the second bank.

For extensions, to show money came from overseas is not required.

Since I will have to start the process anew with a non-O, that's what I need to do.

If applying for a non-o visa at immigration the 800k baht only has to be in the bank on the day you apply. You will need proof the 8020k baht came from abroad if you have recently deposited it. If has been in the bank for a long time the will waive the requirement.

To apply for the one year extension of stay the 800k baht will need to be in the bank for 2 months. No proof it came from is needed.

i have a question regarding re-entry permits.

when should i pay for annual multi entry permit, or whatever they call it?

can it be on the same day i get the non-O visa?

You can get it immediately after getting your extension of stay.  The re-entry permit can be single or multiple entry (1,000 or 3,800 baht, respectively) and will be good to use up until your new permission to stay date.  Any re-entry permit you purchase is valid until your current permission to stay until date, regardless of when you purchase it.  Re-entry permits can also be purchased at international airports before you leave Thailand.

When you re-enter Thailand using a re-entry permit you will be stamped with a permission to stay up until your current permission to stay date.  If your re-entry permit is derived from a Non-OA visa (rather than a non-O visa) you will need to satisfy health insurance requirements (400,000 inpatient, 40,000 outpatient) for your entire permission to stay period stamped into your passport.  You will not be stamped with a permission to stay that exceeds your health insurance coverage.

Ok, I guess I messed up then!

My extension was granted 5 Aug 2021 until 29 Aug 2022.

I withdrew 380.000 last week, thinking I would be fine with 400K for sure.

I was thinking I could withdraw it all until a few weeks before applying again.

So what are my options now?

A mate of mine dipped below the 400k for a few days and on renewal the IO told him to go see an agent to apply for his extension. But he had the 800k in for the required first 3 months before dipping bellow the 400k.

The 800K requirement is actually TWO months BEFORE, and THREE months AFTER. A lot of people think it's three months before because that was the old rule, BEFORE there was any AFTER requirement at all.

The minimum balance for a retirement extension using the lump-sum bank deposit method cannot fall below:

800k baht two (2) months prior to the application for extension

800k baht three (3) months after the application for extension

400k baht the rest of the year
