Australia’s vaccine rollout ‘constrained’ by Pfizer supply shortages until August

Mon 21 Jun 2021 12.51 BST

Shortages of the Pfizer Covid vaccine are expected to slow Australia’s rollout through June and July, as states and territories call on the commonwealth to sign up more GPs to dispense doses when supplies increase in August.

At national cabinet, the commonwealth conceded that supply is the rollout’s biggest constraint.

Asked if the supply constraints were likely to delay younger people’s access to Pfizer, Frewen conceded this was the case but said supplies were “suitable” for the categories already eligible.

And even Sinovac might not be as efficient as other vaccines, it was better than no vaccine, much better, and it might have saved lives, many lives.

And from that statement, can we also claim the lassitude Thailand exhibited, getting orders in for Pfizer, and bringing it's AZ production on-line, and supplying the country, cost lives?

You can't have Pfizer supply problems if you don't order in the first place like Thailand, again back on topic to my post and Thailand

It does take fair bit of time to get the mRNA vaccines delivered. My friend in Australia was waiting months to get appointments for vaccinations, finally he got Moderna dates for October. Hi didn't want the inferior AZ jab.

Yes. So did Australia and Japan learn that order is one thing and delivery is another.

Thailand never got the chance to learn....................it never ordered in the first place so whether they would be late in delivery or not like Siam Bioscience is irrelevant and hypothetical, some countries they were late some not. By the way Australia and Japan are not Thailand

Sure, but to get to the luxury of waiting you have to order first which they did not in time as per the article I posted

South Africa ordered 30 mil Pfizer doses in April,  10 millions delivered so far,  nearly the end of September.

Great Thailand could have ordered in Nov (5 months earlier than SA) so when do you think it would have reached here?

Get serious...November last year? Only the rich countries were putting orders in the first couple of months after the vaccines got approved,  they can afford to order big surpluses to hedge their bets. That's why there is surplus of vaccines in EU.

Name one country at the same income level as Thailand or poorer, which has had uninterrupted supply of mRNA vaccines and has fully vaccinated 60% plus of the population.

Well, a sharp-tick in the eye is "available".

Doesn't mean it's a good thing though. Sure efficacy is more important than availability? And if sonovac is so effective why give a third shot booster?

But what this message really means is that sinovac is the bulk of their vaccine load through the end of the year, and probably well into 2022.

Only a month ago they were intent on phasing sinovac out as of 1 Nov 2021. Now they just need to make it seem like they're doing something so give sinovac now, as a first shot, and then hope for something better next year.

It is easier for Thais to pronounce than Pfizer or Astra Zeca....?

.

You got that right.  Thai wife pronounces them as Phy-ZER, and As-TRA and Mo-der-NA.

With Sinovac, other than the fact that it is cheaper than the other ones, you'll probably will have to take couple or more of booster shots to make it work and this is when the cheap become expensive...

not mentioning kowtowing ( i would have used stronger terms but it's not allowed) to the big brother China...

Chinese proverb? Buy Cheap, Buy Twice.

If it has a big advantage why has no Western Country purchased that particular vaccine it’s total BS yet another publicity stunt to try and persuade the good folk of Thailand that it’s a wry good vaccine if that were the case why did the majority of the administration have the AZ vaccine including the PM
