The morons who run the country would like to think they can shape how Pattaya will turn out, but the hard truth, which they will surely learn, is that they'll have to take whatever they can get. Whenever someone who hasn’t been to pattaya asks a question to someone who has been there, it’s not “where is a good place to eat?” or “what temples or beaches do you recommend?”

I’ve been here since January. There is absolutely NOTHING appealing about Pattaya/Jomtien except for the ease of access to sex with attractive girls within its proximity.

 

In the absence of that. It’s a depressing, dreary, place that feels like it shut years ago. Nothing will bring this place back to life EXCEPT the steady wealth transfer of BOOMER BUX to naive Thai teens for sex.

When I first visited Pattaya in the 80's it was with my parents and sister, we stayed in a nice resort hotel, enjoyed the pool and the hotel restaurants.  We did go to the beach and I recall it was quite nice, but we preferred the hotel pool because you don't get sand all over you. 

What Pattaya went on to become drove the family type holiday makers away. 

If Pattaya can reinvent itself as a family friendly resort again it will do much better.

Another 20,000 have only had one shot and 480,000 have had zero shots.

There are at least five different Pattayas that I know of. Wongamat with its attempt at a Mediterranean upscale resort destination (cheap Monaco), Phratumnak aiming for a Tenerife kind of feel, Jomtien as an old resort town which has settled in its ways (Benidorm?), Dark side which is like many other "normal" Thai towns and then Central Pattaya. Which is like very few other places on earth. And the driving engine behind the economy in all five of these areas. 

As the saying goes, let me know how it works out not being the as it was.

Yeah I can see Mr & Mrs R.E. Spectable with Claude, Agnes and baby Winnie traveling for 12 hours on a plane jumping through all the hoops  so they can spend a few weeks on a <deleted>ty beach and polluted sea.

If this is the direction that they want to head then tourist numbers will never get back to pre covid status, for those that came pre covid, those fond memories will be just that, a bustling entertainment industry killed by covid, never to return to what it once was, pompei done and dusted.

So, what happens to those +/- 2 million "entertainment workers" who made a direct/indirect living of working in Turish Baths, Karaokes, Bar Beers and the like? All going into BLUE now? Just asking for a friend!

Pattaya was dying long before covid hit. With the restrictions the present government put on the place. Doubt it will ever be like it used to be. I can remember Soi Buakhao when it was near impossible to to walk down the Soi due to it being packed. About a year before covid hit you could walk down the middle of the Soi ten abreast  with out blocking anyone's way of being.
