Now 7-day stay for Sandbox tourists from any country in the world

Thailand’s new quarantine regulations reduce mandatory stay in pilot reopening destinations from 14 to seven days, effective 1 October, 2021.

Bangkok, 1 October, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to advise that under new quarantine regulations approved by the Royal Thai Government, fully vaccinated foreign tourists visiting Phuket, Surat Thani, Phang-Nga, and Krabi via the relevant sandbox programmes can now stay for only seven days before being able to move on to other parts of Thailand.

 

As of today (1 October, 2021), the quarantine time for fully vaccinated international travellers arriving in Thailand, including the pilot reopening destinations through the Alternative Quarantine (AQ) system, will be reduced from 14 to seven days.

 

The reduced quarantine time applies to those visiting under the “Sandbox” programme to Phuket, Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao), Phang-Nga (Khao Lak and Ko Yao), and Krabi (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai and Railay Beach).

 

It also means that fully vaccinated tourists can now travel straight to the designated areas of Phang-Nga and Krabi upon landing in Phuket, and stay there for seven days.

 

In addition, from today (1 October 2021) onwards, Thailand has lifted the listing of countries per the level of COVID-19 transmission risks for Sandbox tourists. This means Thailand is now welcoming travellers from any country in the world to the ‘Sandbox’ programme.

 

More details on the situation under the reduced mandatory stay of seven days will be made available as soon as possible.

Do they explain whether there is a reduction in the number or type of Covid tests a sandboxer will undergo during the seven days?

Is there already the planned transfer option at Suvanabumi Airport? Many airlines only offer Bangkok as a destination and not e.g. Koh Samui. Same with Phuket. There is no long range airline which over Krabi as final destination. Can travelers book the connecting flight seperatly themselves?

Reduction from 3 tests to 2 tests.

I'm in the phuket sandbox since September 26th. Will I be able to fly to BKK on October 3rd which is my 7th day? I asked for a certificate and fit to fly document from the testing center when I had my 2nd swab test done.

Gradually it will sink in, not quickly and certainly not until tourist spots can't reopen and are a mere shadow of themselves, but sadly I will point out that rather than being the centre of the Universe Thailand has become the place where if the world needed an enema, God would stick the tube. They will get the same result for Dewalhi, as they got for Golden week and it will go on and on until they start mass testing, honest reporting and a proper vaccine regime. One thing that has come out of covid is that <deleted> and bluster are no longer acceptable as international  currency.

Indeed. After more than 1 year and a half, they still refuse to understand.

 

It's pathetic.

 

Every week they try to sugarcoat the "sandbox"... To the point of total absurdity ! Look at their sign now ! "alcohol allowed" and even "Live music !"

????

 

That's a very powerful message for... tourists... They are supposed to be thrilled, wai, and say "thank you !"

Reading all the comments above i guess that things will come clearer as time goes on, as of right now, there are more questions than answers...

Sandbox = quarantine no matter how you dress it up, no matter how many countries you invite in.

It is confusing and it changes daily.

For Phuket - you must fly direct, Not via Bangkok.

For Samui there is a 'quarantined' transfer route for a transfer to one of the three daily special Samui Plus flights. (No domestic passengers allowed.)

There are also scheduled flights to Samui for domestic travellers. (No International passengers allowed unless they have quarantined in Bangkok first.) The passengers cannot mix and match.

Do you have to fly out of Phuket? Also could you tell me what the SHABA cert is? Do you get it if you book directly with the hotel or do you have to use some site?

Foreign tourists fully vaccinated and tested prior to arrival with a COE should not have to negotiate the scam of quarantine in a SHA facility or other.

They are as safe as they can be, it's the un-vaccinated locals that pose the problem.

Solve that and open up properly.

I spoke with one of my daughter's in the UK last night about quarantine in Thailand as she and her family visit every year. No way will they be visiting until there is no quarantine. She also mentioned that they'd all had a holiday in Majorca recently and the tour company had subsidized all the covid tests for the family of five....total cost for all of the tests worked out the equivalent of 3000 bht, compare with the approximate 16000 bht for tests they'd have to pay for a Thai holiday.

Yes. And, in the publication which can't be linked, they today said they expect 1 million tourists in Phuket between now and the next six months!!! Hahahahahahaha!

My guess is, that the price will go up.

Can a domestic traveller from Bangkok to Phuket now prove to be Covid free with self-testing using the Thai FDA-approved Anitgen Test Kit, or is this solely an option for Phuket residents?? Do we no longer need to show proof of at least one night reservation in a Phuket hotel?

With conditions of NEG test before departure and NEG on arrival?

So to cope with the predicted increase of tourists due to the reduced 7 day quarantine , will the authorities allow farangs to use inter-provincial buses and flights , indeed bring back buses to provide a reasonable service and reinstate flight routes .   Also not forget that after you have finished your quarantine and maybe travel to a village , it is quite likely that the head of the village will want you to do another session of inhouse quarantine . Sandbox details neglect to mention this .

Afterthe 2nd test you should be allowed to fly out from anywhere.

SHABA Code is supplied by the hotel, once you paid for your stay.

This is a really important issue in the scheme and one that needs clarifying. The number of instruments is noted ...

 

 

 

but does anyone know what type of instruments are allowed. Guitars are obviously safe instruments , but all that thrashing around on drums can't be good for transmitting Covid-19 and the brass and woodwind section with all that spitting must surely be banned.

The Thai military must make money, even by a pandemy. No problem, no moral!

 

Completely unnecessary sandbox system, if people have had 2 doses of Pfizer, Moderna or Astra Z. . Because the corrupt military elite wants this sandbox - even if 2x vaccinated already - it's proof by 100%, that some money of the overpriced ASQ hote bills of the quarantine goes in their pockets.

 

In Thailand it's completely impossible to follow the money, particularly  when it goes in military pockets. Or did you hear or read that somebody has been allowed "to follow the money" on miliitary bank accounts? Controls impossible!
