Thailand on Sunday (Oct 10) reported 10,817 new COVID-19 cases, 84 deaths and 9,981 recoveries.

50 of the new cases were among prison inmates.

Sunday's cases brings the total number of cases in Thailand since the pandemic began to 1,710,884 with 17,691 deaths.

As of Friday, Thailand had administered 59.3 million vaccine doses. Of these, 34.66 million people had received one dose (48.1% of the population), while 22.94 million (32.8% of population) had received two doses. 1.69 million people (2.3% of population) have had a third booster shot.

The news comes as the government on Saturday confirmed the planned reopening of Thailand to vaccinated foreign tourists on Nov 1 will go ahead, providing no large clusters are discovered between now and the end of October.

Great news - but what constitutes a "large cluster"?

Those being treated in a real hospital rising for the last 6 days:

5th Oct = 36,649

6th Oct = 38,301

7th Oct = 39,982

8th Oct = 41,057

9th Oct = 41,883

10th Oct = 43,299

Increasing by an average of 3.6% a day each day since 5 October.  This is going to become a problem.  If 3.6% increases each day continue, we'll be at 92,000 people being treated for Covid in real hospitals by November 1st.  Can the health care system sustain such a volume of Covid patients?  What about other people getting sick or injured, including tourists?

I also noticed that Thailand is now up to 24 from 26 on the Main over all list and averaging 252 deaths per million of population for the overall totals, not what someone else keeps pushing.

24

Thailand

1,710,884

+10,817 17,691 +84 1,582,313 +9,981 110,880 3,324 24,433 253 9,201,621 131,409 70,022,614

130th for deaths per 1m and cases per 1m.

Not doing to bad in the broad scheme of things.

Looks like we are slowly trending to possibly have more testing done via the ATK tests, and the only time a PCR test will be used will be for folks entering the hospital who may have already had a positive test via the ATK kits.  Dangerous territory.

If that is true, does not that mean that the daily graph showing the green (combined total) bar might actually be double counting some cases, if so how many? I  gather that figure (second confirming PCR test) is not published ?

Anyone booking a 'holiday' hoop jumping flight to Thailand needs their heads examined.

No that would mean that they would be on the next days or future Days PCR test positives case count, not the same days.

So after being counted once one day on the green bar graph then counted again some following day is not double counting. Strange logic.

I thought you meant counted the same day, sorry I was not clear.  The biggest issue is they don't include the ATK positives in their reportable cases only list it as a possible case, but not reported outside of the country.

Well WHO probably requires lab confirmation of a positive case I would have thought. Obviously they introduced the rapid test without a reporting protocol to satisfy the subsequently confirmed case/highly probably case difference

This has been explained a few times already on these threads. They are only pcr tested if taken as a hospital admission, they are not pcr tested when positive by atk and go to home isolation, community care center or quarantine.

in addition the Rural Doctors Society made a public statement saying Thailand is undercounting its official figures by not including atk tests.

it’s basically official number fudging

But obviously a few/quite a few of the ATK end up in Hospital right. And are given a PCR test which is subsequently reported if positive. Official number fudging yes but we don't know how many fall into both groups?
