Thai PM confirms Nov 1 reopening, reduced curfew, COE to be replaced with “Thailand Pass”

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha has confirmed the country will reopen to vaccinated foreign tourists from 10 low risk countries who arrive by air on Nov 1.

 

During a meeting on Thursday lunchtime (Oct 14), it was also announced that the night time curfew will be reduced to 11pm-3am.

 

The new curfew will be effective from Oct 16 and will remain in place until the end of October. 

 

With the reduction of the curfew restaurants and convenience stores can now open until 10pm.

 

However, the sale of alcohol in restaurants is still banned and bars, pubs and nightclubs must remain closed.

 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Certificate of Entry (COE) requirement for foreign tourists will be replaced with a new web based system called “Thailand Pass”.

 

The system will make it easier for people wishing to travel to Thailand and will support the government’s “Ease of Travelling” policy. 

 

The new Thailand Pass system will replace the COE system by Nov 1, it was announced.

 

However, the COE will still be used by those who enter Alternative Hospital Quarantine (AHQ) for those who arrive by land or sea.

 

Further details are set to be announced following official approval from the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Plus the COE application was never the problem, it was the requirements of the COE being pre-paid Hotel, flights and PCR tests and the scam covid insurance, so what's the point of this?

So, not really much point coming then. You can't expect tourists to come if there is no fun, alcohol in restaurants, pubs/bars, clubs, really free movement etc. etc. plus nanny-squad curfews. Just won't happen... dream on.

Unlikely. UK folks will take a quick, cheap flight to the meditteranean where there are less hoops to jump through, the beaches are clean and everything is open. Germans like to drink beer. The Chinese aren't allowed to travel.

 

So you should be able to get a sunbed. Although if it's on a beach you won't be allowed to drink or smoke. If it's by a pool, the pool will probably be shut.

No clarity desperately trying to cover up 2/3 of locals have no protection and failure to order/deliver adequate protection against Delta.

If there is a new wave its counter productive.

Spend the cash get the jabs and then re open like other mature nations have done.

Tourists minglng, some in very close proximity? will be taking the virus back home will lead to issues and Thailand back on red lists/quarantine, rinse and repeat.

 

This is not rocket sceance they can learn form other nations , but flooding, corruption, traffic enforcement they won't because a corrupt elite just want instant gratifcation like Krystal Klub and kids in the playpen everywhere.

Of course we don’t even know what the COE will be  (if) replaced with but the COE is a major problem because the applicant has to depend on the Embassy’s staff availability whereas , if it works like with Greece for example, it takes a few minutes to register and get the approval

Thailand Pass, a COE with a different name?  Still need approval from an embassy or consulate still need to submit or upload documents, still need Covid 19 Insurance and still need 72 predeparture Covid 19 PCR test.  Really not much to get excited about unless one can truly arrive after Nov 1 and only spend one night in an ASQ Hotel waiting for the PCR Test result.  Otherwise it's "the same old song and dance".

I'm in Khon Kaen tomorrow. All the farang bars are open and beer is sold.albeit one has to drink out of a ceramic mug) . Please come and have a beer with me Mr Prayut and see how well your rules work!
