Thailand listed among the healthiest countries to retire

Thailand has been listed among the healthiest countries in the world to retire, according to a new report by the U.S. News & World Report website.

 

Thailand is included in the list alongside Portugal, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, France and Turkey.

 

The countries were included because they “have track records for being healthy places to retire, due to the quality and availability of their health care systems and the healthful benefits of their lifestyles and cuisines,” the website reads.

Thailand is more than Bangkok and its vicinity or Chiang Mai and other northern areas during burning season. The air on the coastal and island areas in the South is nearly year round very clean.

The food is very dirty here unlike in Europe.

 

Before covid I used to get food poisoning every 3 months eating out.

 

Besides that I don't have any other complaints.

Total lies and fake news. Before Covid, the attitude of most people was pleasing. Fun and playful. Not anymore. Sabotage and economic destruction has its price. Not to mention the heinous air quality, 7 months of the year. And nobody is doing anything to improve that. It seems to worsen each year. Also, a frequent and horrific immigration experience, does not help.

 

It is as of the authorities are trying to create an environment somewhere between Beijing (air quality) and Sierra Leone (economy and standard of living). 

 

The only aspect of Thailand which remains, that is conducive to a healthy lifestyle, is the relatively low cost of living. And the women, if you are single and avoid a relationship. Less stress from that if you are on a budget.

The WHO ranks Thailand's health care system at No. 47. Thailand is one of the world's top destinations for medical tourism because of its world-class facilities with low costs.

 

Seems a load of nonsense to me. My own UK already has life expectancy of 82/83 - so I may be dying earlier in Thailand

 

And Thailand is ranked 47th in the world for health care.

 

What this story should be saying is 'If you are rich and can afford the best healthcare, you may be ok and may reach your own country life expectancy - assuming you do not die on the roads'.

 

Personally I think retirees are more like to die of a heart attack worrying about when or IF you get your yearly extension.

Wow!! I did not know adding sugar to everthing they eat is healthy. Thailand has been taken over by 7/11. So I can see why they are healthy.  Cheap 40bht noodles, bad air, trash and cheap whisky will make a person live long.  Oh! Don't forget about the careless drivers.

I have often been accused of being a Thai apologist, and even I find the inclusion of  Thailand listed among the healthiest countries to retire a bit a a head scratcher.

????Personally, I seriously doubt any of these people coming to Thailand to do their reports ever really see what the tour guides want them to see!  Then when they are ready to leave they are handed a Thank you for visiting envelope the larger the better your rating that is on top of being wine and dine at the best hotels all comp along with all the girls entertainment.

If you eat in 5-star hotels and you go to Bumrungrad for treatment maybe.

However if you eat the normal Thai street food and frequent a government hospital maybe not.

But seriously, many of us in this forum decided that Thailand was preferable to our home countries, so perhaps there's some merit in the report.

People have in general retired to Thailand because ;

A) inclement weather

B) Ease of long stay visa

C) It was very cheap

D) Easy going lifestyle

E) Availability of much younger , attractive women / boys / in betweeners.

At best only about 50% of the above now holds true and with the present government entrenched , things will only get worse.

Yes many of you will still be happy and content , but the country is going backwards in almost every conceivable sense.

Citizens cannot even comment on the biggest problem going forward , the strangling of any form of democracy , the future aint bright !
