Anutin hits out at bars and pubs for opening illegally

Thailand's Minister of Public Health and deputy PM Anutin Charnvirakul has been ranting again. 

 

Following more measured comments last week as Thailand continued to reopen, the controversial minister took direct aim at nightclubs, pubs, bars and karaoke for damaging the country.

 

He blamed bars in Bangkok directly for causing the misery and death of the last six months.

 

In an interview with Thai media he was clearly referring to the now infamous clusters in exclusive Thong Lo clubs that kickstarted the deadly wave of infections from April.

 

Conveniently he failed to mention that some key figures in the government were in attandance at those clubs and completely brushed any of his own alleged misdemeanors under the carpet.

 

He said that nightlife establishments that continue to flout the rules were similarly damaging the country.

 

His use of Thai vocabulary made it appear he was calling it tantamount to treason. 

 

Instead he praised his leader Prayuth Chan-ocha for doing everything right and providing wonderful vaccine for the people.

 

It was right, he said, that Prayuth was thoroughly concerned about new clusters coming from the pubs and bars where alcohol is served. 

 

He was not about to suggest that industry pressure to reopen the nightlife industry on December 1st would be successful.

 

On the contrary he said it was scary that some staff in places that had opened illegally were not vaccinated. 

 

His only concession to a more relaxed atmosphere was in saying that the CCSA in their meeting today may relax rules for foreigners allowing them to just have ATK tests on arrival and not the far more onerous and costly RT-PCR tests.

Maybe he should check how many of the bars that are open, are run by politicians, police or other persons in higher official positions. That might make him be as quiet as about Sinovac after his refusal to enter Switzerland became a public fact. Anything to make this guy shut up!

Exactly, the hypocrisy of these people is just unbelievable. Do they honestly believe that we are in the dark as to who exactly is running the bars etc.

Europe seems to be heading same way - nightlife and alcohol restrictions due to a new hard hitting wave of Covid-19 - so unfortunately what khun Anutin says might not be that far out, as many of us expats would wish he is...????

Let the police control more and more .. here in phetchaburi some restaurants/bars are illegally open for months already without any checking by the police.....How do they the calll that?? bribery/corruption/lack of police???

Utter clap trap, the so called wonderful vaccines are in short supply.

In my province less than 37% have been double jabbed.

 

As for bars spreading covid, we all know it's about continuing the emergency decree and suppression of citizens rights

 

The government was asleep at the wheel and pursued a useless initial strategy of zero covid and Chinese vaccines instead of getting onboard with global cooperation.

New clusters coming from the pubs and bars where alcohol is served. What a lot of Bull.  How about all the Festivals they are having these days? I would call that huge clusters.

No mention of the real source of the initial spike - a porous border filling important pockets. If there really was a lack of infections, as the government led us to believe at the time, then how could these clubs spread what did not exist?

But failed to highlight the many clusters that emerged from concentration camps that house migrants in Thailand who were locked in to contain the spread.
