Banglamung – An entertainment venue in the Banglamung district was raided by officials in the early hours of this morning, November 28th, for allegedly illegally selling alcoholic beverages and violating the Chonburi Communicable Disease Control Act.

Police officers from the Pattaya City Police Station arrived at ‘Babylon Pattaya’ located at Sai 3 of Central Pattaya in the Nong Prue Subdistrict at 1:00 AM. for inspection after receiving telephone complaints from a concerned citizen that there were illegal sales of alcoholic beverages in the venue that violated the Chonburi Communicable Disease Control Act.

The concerned citizen was reportedly concerned about the spread of Covid-19 at this venue. TPN notes, however, that earlier in the evening crowds in the thousands were present on the nearby beach for the Pattaya fireworks festival but it appeared that this particular concerned citizen was not as concerned with this event. Additionally, the venue was allegedly violating several other current rules, including those that ban nightlife and entertainment venues from opening, current operating hours, and social distancing rules.

Upon arrival, customers were allegedly seen eating food and drinking alcohol before attempting to escape in panic as soon as they saw the officers.

Could be anyone, a disturbed neighbour, a competitive business owner who isn't open, someone on the take from the police. It would be  better situation if the police did their own checks about town. What on earth do they expect to happen after an event like the fireworks display. Not only Covid restrictions... wasn't there also an alcohol restriction due to some elections going on.... certainly Big-CX was not selling on Sunday?

And they wonder why tourists are confused.

I think the rules are deliberately vague so the Police can pick and choose who they "arrest".

Silly people !
Everyone knows covid is afraid of fireworks !! ????????

It appears that prohibition has come back 100 years later (1920-1933) USA.

I wasn't delusional before I moved here, I knew Thailand was a little behind, but 100 years, well, ok then.

Too true.  RTP have fewer businesses to protect/strangle with all the closures.

Fools, they should have waited until this weekend and sold them at the Music Festival so people could drink and dance on the beach.

I like the term "concerned citizen". Sounds much better than "informer".

after receiving telephone complaints from a concerned citizen

Please note, the national "free call" number for such complaints is still active:-

"encouraging people to help report activities deemed to violate the government’s rules and regulations to curb the spread of Covid-19 by calling the national hotline at 1111"

I think they borrowed the term from the Illustrious Joseph Stalin.  "Concerned Comrade" was the euphemism for describing the circa 60% of the population that were informants to the various arms of the state including local commissars, the NKVD, etc.

So in a family of 5 people, three of them were statistically an informant.

Fear and oppression applied by individuals and lowly officials in the the USSR was a far greater tyranny than ever applied directly by the government.  That would never happen today in the free democratic countries that we hail from.....oh wait....
