Tourism officials have announced plans to promote Hua Hin as a medical hub for foreign tourists.

Speaking to the Bangkok Post, Krod Rojanastien, president of the Thai Spa Association and head of the Hua Hin Recharge scheme, said tourism operators will meet with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to draft a medical focussed tourism promotion for next year.

Mr Krod said that medical tourism will help to attract long stay tourists, with greater spending power.

Define long stay tourists please. Isn't that really expat residents? And a beach party town...perfect place to be stuck in a hospital or condo recovering.

To be a medical "hub" of anywhere...doctors are needed.

Specialist medical care is quite difficult to get in the provinces....incomes in BKK far exceed these regions.....pay more and get the attention or languish with 1 or 2 days per month care, when these people can visit

A medical hub?  For certain conditions you are referred to a Bangkok hospital  anyway.  So it’s good as long as your specific condition is treatable in Hua Hin.

As half the town is still closed for business and putting off tourism I guess as the hospitals are open it might work.

Are premium services available here? I wasn't aware of this in the least.

Was surprised that even Phuket was trying this stunt.

Serious medical? Go to Bangkok!

International tourism is dead. Climate change and covidiots killed it.

Pick up the pieces and move on Thailand.

Don't forget to mention that 1 price for foreigners and a lower price for Thais in the small print!

I think he should stick to promoting R&R as HH certainly wouldn't be my pick for a medical hub.  A bit lacking in services available.  HH wouldn't even cross my mind for a hospital stay.

Well the coffee shop at the foot of Khao Takiab charges 400 baht for a coconut water...that's pretty premium

Yes remember the dutch guy taking the hospital to court over the 2 tier pricing system

Medical hub?

The pricing nowadays in private hospitals makes medical tourism to Thailand less attractive.

There are other countries offering the same for less.

Greedy shareholders.........

Seriously? They have a couple of half-decent hospitals on the main drag, and not much else. Hardly a hub!

Well at least the air is better in Hua Hin, and patients who are not bed bound could

enjoy some time in the outdoors. In Bangkok the pollution is usually bad enough that

most days, staying indoors is necessary. So if Hua Hin wants to be a Hub, I would go there before staying in

Bangkok.

I don't think it will be too difficult to attract good medical professionals to live in Hua Hin.

It already has a sizable farang community, with many golf courses and other reasonable services.

New direct air routings next year and after will make it that much easier for people to visit.

Sounds good but HH rather quiet & boring. No competition for Bangkok or Phuket as Med Hub. They also simply don’t yet have the equipment or doctors …….Initiative tie-in with new Med Longstay Visa …..

dont think, they mean much when they announce plans to promote a city as hub of something...

more like telling inhabitants of the city, that we have not forgotten your existence.

hub of nomads

hub of temples

hub of bars (ie restaurants)

hub of medical

hub of free trade zones

hub of public holidays

hub of rip offs etc

but is it fully wheelchair accessible??

Yes, serious surgery and follow-on evaluation is done in Bangkok.  My experience in Hua Hin with hospital of the same name was that evaluation as well as MRI was done at the Bangkok Hospital

in Bangkok.  My wife spent one day and night in the ICU and then off to Bangkok for carotid artery repair and later balloon angioplasty.

Is this satellite hub in retrograde or antegrade orbit around the mother hub of hubba hubs?

I'm surprised Thailand has room for another hub.....a bit like the never ending inactive posts the naughty police are sent to lol!
