Next holiday destination ?
Where are coming from and going to ? In the Americas, yes, a few hours to other countries on a flight is good. Though it takes just as long to check in now. PHL to MEX is a few hours, and a few hours for check in 🙄 Unless a long holiday, not worth the trip for me. USA to Asia, that's 12 hrs & silly priced, and that's from west coast. Use to take 30 hrs, PHL to Phuket, and even required an overnight, so 4 or 5 days travel, and silly price. From TH, takes too long to go anywhere, out of that Asian flare area. Then to a western vibe, that I left ... ... NO THANKS Not when I can drive less than 1 day, get a bungalow on the beach, or a hilltop. All at a fraction of the cost of most other places. Without the 3 hr check in, or exiting through immigrations, both directions. Time & money, better spent just chillin' here, or a day away. -

Those of you who live on 40k a month
Yes, any foreign worker (teachers included) get Thai SSO health insurance for life having worked here for at least 12 months. After leaving work they just need to register at the SSO office within 6 months, around 430 baht is automatically deducted from their chosen bank account every month. I know a few people that were instantly covered for around 500,000 baht after having sudden and serious illnesses. One of their private health insurances refused cover, another didn't even use their private insurance as the Thai SSO immediately covered the 400,000 baht of immediate treatment. 🙂 Most open a bank account specifically for it and stick 5000 THB into it at the start of each year. If they have 15 years of work within the SSO by the age of 60 they will also get a small pension for life. Capped at something like 3500 baht per month. Enough for a nice lunch or dinner with the wife or husband on the monthly payday. 🙂 -
