Thailand on Wednesday (January 19) reported 7,122 new COVID-19 cases, 7,460 recoveries and 12 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 6,950. Prisons: 172

▶︎ Recoveries: 7,460

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,344,811 with 21,968 deaths.

The news comes as the Thai Tourism and Sports Minister is planning to propose to the CCSA (Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration) the return of the “Test&Go” tourism program as early as this February to attract a year goal of about eight million international arrivals while expecting substantial tourism income.

Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn told the Associated Press today, January 18th, that the Ministry would mention the reimplementation of the previously-canceled tourism plan, possibly in this February, at the general meeting of Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), chaired by the Prime Ministry, in order to revive the tourism and the domestic economy.

Amazing THailand, while all over the world the cases spike to 20 or 30 thousand a day Thailand manage to keep them under the 8.000.....

Exactly.

With roughly the same pop as Thailand:

France reports nearly half a million new cases, a record increase; Italy records 228,179 daily infections – as it happened

It's the number of cases they're admitting to detecting, the actual number of cases will be far higher, but we'll never know the truth of it.

While South Korea with a population of 51 million has around 4,000 cases a day. Malaysia 32 million, 3,000 cases. Indonesia 273 million, 1,300 cases. South Africa 59 million, 4,600 cases.

Numbers are variable all around the world.

Yes whats also variable is the stage of the outbreak, South Africa's peak of over 20,000 a day was over a month ago and has been declining rapidly since then. Malaysia and South Korea's testing are all far better per capita than Thailand's so figures can be a little more trust worthy.

That's why so many guy's got caught out failing the return fit to fly test.

Wonder how many considered that when they were booking their short break in Thailand? It's not just where you coming from, it's the infection rate in the country you are travelling too. Suspect part of the reason authorities don't want to show true rate, scare off the tourists.

I won't get into a phony numbers type discussion but the current US State Department Travel Advisory for Thailand is as follows including the warning

"Because of the current situation in Thailand, all travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants."

All part of the plan, run out of ATK's already............

ATK test kits out of stock, groups call for an end to student testing

Antigen Test Kits (ATKs) are running out of stock, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) said on Wednesday, leading to concerns over the high price of second hand markets and hoarding issues.

The GPO announced earlier that 3.5 million ATKs will be sold to members of the public at a price of 35 baht per kit starting from January 14. It has since sold out.

The shortage of ATK test kits at times when case numbers are rising due to Omicron has caused concern among members of the public over price increases and hoarding issues.

Wait, hang on, but the numbers seem quite stable. 7-8k PCR and approx 2k ATK per day, someone somewhere is being economical with truth.

Guess I am glad I bought what I did for the Condo in BKK, as well as for me to bring over to the US for my use and my kids.  Test kits here are few and far between right now with only 4 per household being allowed to be ordered. Pharmacies here in Oregon have none.

Glad I brought over 2 boxes of KN95 masks as well.  Hard to find those here as well.

The numbers in the vaccinated areas keep dropping while in locations not heavily vaccinated the cases are rising still...ebb and flows.

I can only assume the same is going on in Tbailand and without testing enmass who knows where the numbers truly sit.
