Vice Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Seksakol Atthawong, alias “Rambo Isan”, has quit the ruling Palang Pracharat party, reportedly to join the Thai Sang Thai, founded by former Pheu Thai party chief strategist Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan.

 

The outspoken vice minister, formerly a core member of the red-shirt movement, submitted his resignation letter to the party on January 27th without giving a reason for his departure.

 

The ruling party, led by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, has seen dozens of its MPs and members leave recently, including a group of 21 MPs, led by former deputy agriculture minister Thammanat Prompao, who were sacked from the party last month allegedly for making an unacceptable demand of the party.

Atthawong is a rabid nutter and even by the PPP's appallingly low standards of ethics and mental efficiency, he's a shocker. Not sure who the winner and loser here is. Hopefully this lot consume themselves. Thailand would be a better place for it.

Thammanat Prompao was jailed for four years in 1994 for his role in a heroin smuggling case.

Now, now be nice to the poor man. The court said that because it did not happen Thailand he is still allowed to be an MP.   I wonder how his case against the Sydney Morning Herald for printing the court documents is going. Not heard much on that front.

They've still got the Army, who may well be instructed to step in to do some laundry as soon as things get out of hand.

These gangster politicians they deal with are just an inconvenience to pretend they are a Democracy to the US and other gullible parties who are easily hoodwinked, and they will be dispensed as seen fit.

Neither Prayut or Prawit control the army and the incumbent Army Chief General Narongpang is from the King’s Guard. I don’t see how they can instruct the army to do their dirty work.

I will make a most optimistic prediction. When the creeps eventually lose power, there will never be another military coup here. Think about it. The moral authority that backed the coups in the past, is long gone. And the army does not have the guts to wage war against their people, Burma style. Won't happen. The Thai army does not have the guts for it, and the Thai soldiers, and the families of the soldiers would never tolerate their sons murdering innocent Thais. And the Thai soldiers are not facing the level of desperation the young Burmese are. The poverty here is not as grinding as it is in Burma. I do not think it could be sustained, if the fools started it. Thailand is a very different culture than Burma, on a dozen significant levels. And the youth now, are very different people than they were during past coups, which were violent.

 
The army is in a difficult position now. If voted out, they would have to accept it. The generals would have to be content with their massive fortunes.
