Anutin: Thailand's handling of the pandemic "best in the world"

A battling health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul came out all guns blazing yesterday when faced with a grilling by opposition MPs on the government's handling of the pandemic.

INN quoted Anutin as saying that Thailand's response was as good as any country in the world.

Everything that he and his excellent health services have done was for the benefit of the Thai people and others living in the country.

He said that the vaccine program exemplified this and in response to questions about how long it will continue he pledged that the program will continue until Thailand is as safe as it can get.

He reiterated that Thailand was being cautious in what age children received the vaccine; this was an example of the responsibility and standards shown by Thailand, he claimed.

The comments come as his leader - PM Prayuth Chan-ocha - boasted of Thailand's economic prowess insisting that Thailand is better able to handle inflation and the rising cost of living than other countries.

During Friday's general debate in the House opposition MPs blasted the government on several issues with the pandemic and the economy front and central.

Ah, thailand, the new hub of standards and responibility.

Would be interesting to see the questions raised to solicit the response.

Really ? Thailand is 146th in test per million ! I guess if you consider 146th as first place then he's right

Millions of donated vaccines.

That is if they didn't drooped the ball at the onset of the pandemic where they want nonchalant, business as usual until the hammer came down hard and all hell Brooke loose six months later...

146th

1 & 46

4+6 = 10

So we have 1 + 10

1x0 = 0

So we have 1 and a zero, and the zero doesn't count for anything

Therefore we are left with 1, 1st, the best.

It's simple! ????

This clown would say or do anything, to deflect from his historic failure of the vax program, the highly selective shutdowns, the favoritism toward cronies, and the collapse of the economy and tourism. He does not have the humility, or the wisdom to acknowledge or even to see his own mistakes. That is part of what makes him so dangerous.

The extent to which Anutin and Cha Cha have failed the nation is mind boggling. They will likely be subjects of classes at the university level, 100 years from now, entitled "Who was responsible for the collapse of the Thai economy in the 21st century?". Or "How did Thailand drop from 22nd in the world, to 89th in GDP, in 25 short years?".

There was hardly any politician in any country held accountable for things he had said.  Thailand may be number one in this discipline.

is this ## having a laugh

listing all the things they did right would be a very short list - lets start with vaccines and go from there, then closely followed by testing and let's not exclude being open and honest with the public

delusional this man thinks he did anything

One side blasts the other, this is a common thing around the world, they are all the same, same s-h-i-t different smell, I say, always dividing, no one works in unity, except the general public when they have all had enough, Canada and a few others are examples, and of course once they raise their heads in peaceful protests, they go straight for their leaders to dismantle the protesters.

Who will Thailand have next to govern them, one would hope it's better than this mob, in hindsight they would have probably been better off now with who was in power  prior to the two previous two coups, just my opinion.

Lets not forget that Thai media operate under a threat of prosecution if they challenge the official line or deviate - there is no free press here

Agreed - this is the figure quoted yesterday.  Does Anutin not read the papers? Have we any news on the increase in his wealth since enrolling on the Sinopharm Bandwagon?

Firing blanks no doubt.

The trouble with blanks is that whilst they appear, to the firer, to be impressive fire and fury, to the " enemy forces" and anyone else observing they are just noises popping off in the distance.

"Guns blazing" only works if they produce "effective enemy fire" on the recipients. That has the sound ( the supersonic crack of bullets passing close) and the sight of casualties falling. You don't get that with blanks.

One thing you can be guaranteed from this clown guy is that he can exercise your obliques better than most comedians. He is consistent on that for sure.:cheesy::cheesy:

Too bad there is not decent media in Thailand to hold him accountable for his comments

Certainly the best in the world talking nonsense while ruining the economy.

When looking at facts - i.e. number of deaths with Covid-19 per million - is he actually fairly correct, even some may not appreciate it.

Thailand has 322 deaths per million population as per today.

Lets compare with death per million in some major Western countries...

Canada: 940

France: 2.083

Germany: 1,445

Italy: 2,530

Sweden: 1,648

Switzerland: 1,498

UK: 2,342

USA: 2,868

and the World in average: 756

If tests per million had any significant value, then Denmark would be number one in the World, no other country comes near to the number of Danish's tests with 10,441,550 tests taken per million inhabitants; number two on the list is Italy with only 2,975,910 tests per million. For Denmark that number means that whole population have been tested more than 10 times, yet 10-20 percent of the population have never been near a test-site.

So how well has Denmark then performed during the pandemic in the figure that matters, namely number of deaths per million?
Denmark should be outstanding, if tests has major protection value, but unfortunately the fact is 730 death per million population.

Note that Thailand - number 146 down the list in Covid-tests per million - has only 322 death per million population.

What an obnoxious, arrogant, deluded, narcissistic and self-aggrandizing man. He disgusts me.

Good job!

Millions out of work.

Crime sharply increasing.

Xenophobia on the rise.

Households ever deeper in debt.

A once flourishing tourism industry destroyed to the point of non-recovery.

Should I go on?

You must believe the Thai governments figures regarding deaths due to Covid. Like most things in Thailand it is all a lie designed to save face.
