Lets not forget that Thai media operate under a threat of prosecution if they challenge the official line or deviate - there is no free press here

Don’t forget you can’t even review a hotel honestly without the threat of being sued if it doesn’t suit them…ahhh good old Thailand.

If this man were any more delusional, he would have to be locked up in a psychiatric institution. I would estimate his approval rating is similar to Prayuth. In the neighborhood of 2-5%. And if you exclude the army and government workers, then it is closer to 1%. Nearly all of us expats know at this point, it is all about PR, and there is very little actionable stuff behind what he says. It is intended to placate the remaining 2-5%, who are still drinking the koolaid, and buying the nonsense.

A successful vaccination program? You could not have blown that harder if you were making a conscious effort to fail. Hello! Please. The best course of action for you would be to simply resign.

The only objection I have is that they are still letting in unvaccinated visitors. Everything else has had pretty impressive results in reducing infections and preventing deaths.

This Anutin dude is a blowfart. He has enriched himself beyond imagination at the expense of his fellow Thais. A disgrace!

Very true. The two main printed organs, are very obedient, though they do go out on a limb occasionally with an editorial. The TV news seem to be puppets, rivaling Granma in Cuba, and Pravda in the old broken down Soviet Union.

Are there are good, hard hitting English language blogs, or youtube channels, that are Thailand specific?

Agree.

Sadly you could substitute any politicians name from almost anywhere in the world.

When looking at facts - i.e. number of deaths with Covid-19 per million - is he actually fairly correct, even some may not appreciate it.

Thailand has 322 deaths per million population as per today.

Lets compare with death per million in some major Western countries...

Canada: 940

France: 2.083

Germany: 1,445

Italy: 2,530

Sweden: 1,648

Switzerland: 1,498

UK: 2,342

USA: 2,868

and the World in average: 756

If tests per million had any significant value, then Denmark would be number one in the World, no other country comes near to the number of Danish's tests with 10,441,550 tests taken per million inhabitants; number two on the list is Italy with only 2,975,910 tests per million. For Denmark that number means that whole population have been tested more than 10 times, yet 10-20 percent of the population have never been near a test-site.

So how well has Denmark then performed during the pandemic in the figure that matters, namely number of deaths per million?
Denmark should be outstanding, if tests has major protection value, but unfortunately the fact is 730 death per million population.

Note that Thailand - number 146 down the list in Covid-tests per million - has only 322 death per million population.

The problem with all those figures is the West labelled just about everyone who dies as as covid death to keep the fear hyped up, whereas Thailand did the opposite to try and look good. Hence the vast difference in figures. You could not get a test in rural Thailand for love or money how on Earth would they be able to know if someone died of covid or not and who would bother to report it as such.

Amazing Thailand nothing or nobody’s ceases to amaze me even the idiots running the current administration

They will mandate it into the constitution that it will be written into history that they were perfection personified.

And once they are ousted, these goons will be ridiculed for many decades to come. If there is any consolation, it is that the Prayuth, Phiphat, Prawit, and Anutin families will have to endure a very humiliating legacy, for generations to come. Of course the massive fortunes will act as somewhat of a balm. Hopefully, at some point the trials at the Hague will insure people do not forget. We can only hope.

The most 'reliable' indicator would seem to be based on excess deaths and therefore historical data (if it exists)

And let's not forget he called us "dirty farang" right at the start. How this muppet keeps his job is beyond me!

He is one of many in this highly toxic administration, that not only despise expats, and most tourists, but seem to hate anything that is not "genuinely Thai". These people are literally the bottom of the barrel.

As Mandy Rice-Davies would have it, "Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?"

Double standard in full flight, I'll bet the luk krueng Tiger Woods gets a fawning welcome. Of course, Anutin would never call him that.

199 countries in the world and Thailand is 146th in lack of testing. (Seek and you will find) The vaccine from china that didnt work and bought  at a price over  double that which other countries were buying it for and then having to do again. Vaccines that had to be donated because they couldnt supply their own The figures that never added up  of the people who had been given  jabs as well  and these with covid including the deaths from covid.  Making poor people pay for tests again seek and you will find.  The jobs and livelihoods lost and the business closed which will take years to establish again. So looking back over the last 2 years it  seems that the Thailand government is only number 1 at lining their own pockets with no regard to thailand or it's people

No. Say it ain't so. Anutin insists that "Thailand's response was as good as any country in the world, and everything that he and his excellent health services have done was for the benefit of the Thai people and others living in the country". He said that the vaccine program exemplified this.

I think maybe we are being too harsh on this man. After all, he is adamant about Thailand being an example to the world, and his work being of the highest standard. And besides he is a selfless man. All he thinks about is the common Thai people. That is why he has pledged to give his fortune away. Haha.

Clue - one word - 2 letters!

He is just saying this to wind everyone up.  Surely he knows the reality.

aka self-fellating or blowing oneself.

It is always opposite with these leaders, if they say go left, if one is smart go right!  If they say " Covid no match for the Thai medical system " that means they are overmatched!  Best now means worse!  ????

This clown would say or do anything, to deflect from his historic failure of the vax program, the highly selective shutdowns, the favoritism toward cronies, and the collapse of the economy and tourism. He does not have the humility, or the wisdom to acknowledge or even to see his own mistakes. That is part of what makes him so dangerous.

The extent to which Anutin and Cha Cha have failed the nation is mind boggling. They will likely be subjects of classes at the university level, 100 years from now, entitled "Who was responsible for the collapse of the Thai economy in the 21st century?". Or "How did Thailand drop from 22nd in the world, to 89th in GDP, in 25 short years?".

"That is part of what makes him so dangerous."

100% correct - to think that there is a possibility that this wealthy politically inept buffoon will be the next PM is scary!

You could make a rational case that Thailand's response overall has been reasonably decent all things considered.

But best in the world?

Beggar's belief.

Absolutely. It is likely he would continue the backwards momentum, and push Thailand back towards 89th place in the world, in GDP. Although he has had some success in his life, his fortune was likely acquired through inheritance, dumb luck, family connections, political connections, or outright thievery.

Hmmm…. Self assessment is always problematic

This guy clearly has no friends because if he did they’d tell him to get the help he desperately needs

Balancing between, pleasing the World Health Organization mafia rule on the world and keeping freedoms of Thai's as much as possible, I agree with him.
