Thailand on Wednesday (February 23) reported 21,232 new COVID-19 cases, 16,662 recoveries and 39 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 21,064. Prisons: 168

▶︎ Recoveries: 16,662

 

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,770,793 with 22,730 deaths.

 

The news comes as the Thai Chamber of Commerce asks the government to call off a repeated RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on visitors entering the country through the Test & Go scheme on day 5 after their arrival to provide visitors with convenience.

 

Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said business operators and provincial chambers of commerce wanted the government to shorten the quarantine period and reduce the number of COVID-19 tests to welcome visitors.

Icu and ventilated patient admissions are rising rapidly, so we can expect to see a continued increase also in the rising covid deaths. Still nowhere near the previous detla wave however when there were over 300 at the peaks.

The region not spared with record high. Singapore 26,032, Malaysia 27,182, Indonesia 55,441 and Vietnam 45,491 infections (CNA). The only silver lining is that Omicron variant is 75% less likely to kill than Delta strain according to South Korea's health authority. I echo your call for folks to be safe and vaccinated.

As PRC positive cases rise to numbers not seen since August 15, 2021 (when it was at 21,882) and death numbers rise to the level seen on December 11, 2021, the hotline for Covid-19 response in Thailand has seen a surge in calls.

 

The hotline 1330 saw more than 49,000 calls in the past 24-hours or more than 50 calls per second of the day yesterday.

Before we pray, can you complete your story by telling us how old is your friend, when was he vaccinated and with what, and what are his symptoms?

 

Obviously the numbers are nothing like the true figures.  I know of around 10 people in Bangkok who tested positive recently and none of them have reported their results, they're just keeping a low profile!  Now that the UK are no longer requiring people who test positive to self-isolate, I would imagine many people will do the same.

Extremely sore throat, like he has razor blades inside it, a low grade fever, and body aches.  He is 62, vaccinated with two AZ's from when he was back in the UK taking care of his elderly parents last year, and then receiving a booster of Pfizer here in the middle of January. ATK home test x2 both positive, wife tested as well and negative.  Staying home taking paracetamol and using strepsils for his throat today.  He has also called the hotline and been told to isolate at home.

The Thai cabinet has decided to postpone indefinitely the Public Health Ministry’s plan to introduce a medical entitlement program for COVID-19 patients, instead of using the Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP), reportedly to avoid public confusion.

Yes they have taken away the legal requirement to self isolate but still advice people to do so if testing positive.

 

Basically handing over responsibilty to the people rather than state imposed.

Isolating at home is good. Hopefully paracetamol & strepsils is all he needs plus lots of fluids.

There is Omicron ba.1 and ba.2 and apparently it's possible to get both.

New official cases exceed the 20,000 threshold for the first time in the current wave -- seven times the daily number at the start of the year. Daily deaths have more than tripled, and patients under care have increased more than five-fold.

The Government predicted that cases would peak by the end of this month and then begin to fall at the beginning of next month. As they control the published figures it should not surprise anyone if this scenario played out.

Handing Songkram back to the people would be a popular move for whoever initiated it. It's all about electioneering now.

It still amazes me how the Prison Authorities are keeping Covid out of the jails.

Only 168 inmates tested positive Today, a surprisingly low number considering the way in which the Inmates are jammed into the cells.

Maybe Anutin is right and they have Covid under control, well, in the Jails at least, but something says to me if Anutin said it, its B@@@@@@s 

A small move in the right direction getting rid of day 5 PCR test and reducing insurance requirement for incoming travellers from 1st March  Possibly an acceptance that many incoming people who tested negative on arrival, but positive on day 5, caught Covid in Thailand, especially with current numbers.

No report for 22nd Feb but today we have a huge expected leap from 168 cases last reported on 21st Feb.

And our local village school has shut immediately due to Covid being found there, Some children are supposed to have been hospitalised!!

 

Health officials on Wednesday (Feb 23) reported 239 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 42 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 23 cases were found in Pranburi, 60 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 9 cases in Kuiburi, 10 cases in Thap Sakae, 24 cases in Bang Saphan, 22 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 49 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.

A couple of weeks ago it was predicted the peak would be around Mid-March. So I think we have a way to go yet. This isn't going to peak in another week. I would say sometime in mid to late March if we are lucky. The spread seems to be picking up steam, and I'm hearing of more cases close to me getting infected. And I don't know that many people. 

The BP have reported that Covid-19 cases are rising in children 5 years and younger, with approx 100,000 now infected according the the health authority.
