You must be confusing the "true eastern leader" with Jesus Christ. You think Putin can just wave an arm and poof! 30 million civilians become soldiers? Training and supplying a soldier is an expensive proposition even if you're just training them to be cannon fodder. To make them effective fighters it costs a lot more. You think a third rate economy like Russia's, especially given the embargo on strategic items, could afford to outfit anything like that number? Already Russia spends a higher percentage of its puny GDP on the military than does America. And given Russia's substandard logistics support, Putin would have to magically magnify Russia's marginal supply of defective rations into lots and lots of loaves and fishes.

Russia has a military of just over 1 million personnel, of which nearly 20%  are now deployed to Ukraine where they are demonstrating their abundant failings across command, through equipment to grunts in the mud.

 

I don’t know if you know this or not, but Russia has rather long borders with multiple nations, all of which are guarded by this same poorly equipped, poorly commanded and corrupt military.

 

Of course Putin could start thinning out his already questionable border units to bolster his failures in Ukraine or he could start admitting to the Russian public that it’s going so badly that he needs to start conscripting and partially training more lambs for the slaughter.

 

So yes, you have a point, Putin could increase the numbers of ill trained, ill equipped, poorly commanded, sullen youths. 
 

After all, he probably sees no need to feed and equip them.

if each does his duty to stop a Ukrainian bullet, eventually the Ukrainians will have no bullets left.

Those unarmed civilians provoked the Russian soldiers so they tied their hands up and shot them. Then they buried them in mass graves. Good luck with that. Sounds like an excuse for further atrocities after their baseless demand is refused. Either that or they're trying to create a narrative to excuse their war crimes. Biden was right on message, Putin cannot remain as head of state in Russia. Once he is indicted for war crimes the country will be forever under sanctions until Putin faces a trial in the Hague.

For long 15 years, Putin’s propaganda taught Russians not to believe their eyes but to propagandists on TV or on the internet who will find a way to excuse any crime that Putin’s regime may commit and to blame it on the victims instead. It will be interesting should the ICC issue an arrest warrant for war crimes, it will severely limit Putins ability to travel at any time in the future.

Could be all of that, and more. But I find it very hard to understand how enlisted men can commit such (war) crimes without at least the tacit approval of their superiors. Or maybe orders have come down from the Kremlin to create as much chaos and terror as possible, by any means possible.

I was just reading a Russian media source (RIA Novosti) with Google translate from a twitter link and the theme of it was clearly that Ukraine needs to not exist. A total annihilation of Ukraine and a name change. They claimed that Ukrainians were all complicit with the nazi doctrine. A very disturbing read from a major national news outlet in Russia.

It never seizes to amaze me how so many people are always more than willing to do the dirty work (lie, cheat, misinform, terrorize, torture, kill, and so on and so forth) of the despots and dictators. The Third Reich could never have existed without millions and millions of people knowingly and willingly cooperating with their evil overlords and doing their dirty work for them.
