15000 of 30 million is about 0.05%. This will not stop the true eastern leader.

You must be confusing the "true eastern leader" with Jesus Christ. You think Putin can just wave an arm and poof! 30 million civilians become soldiers? Training and supplying a soldier is an expensive proposition even if you're just training them to be cannon fodder. To make them effective fighters it costs a lot more. You think a third rate economy like Russia's, especially given the embargo on strategic items, could afford to outfit anything like that number? Already Russia spends a higher percentage of its puny GDP on the military than does America. And given Russia's substandard logistics support, Putin would have to magically magnify Russia's marginal supply of defective rations into lots and lots of loaves and fishes.

Russia has a military of just over 1 million personnel, of which nearly 20%  are now deployed to Ukraine where they are demonstrating their abundant failings across command, through equipment to grunts in the mud.

I don’t know if you know this or not, but Russia has rather long borders with multiple nations, all of which are guarded by this same poorly equipped, poorly commanded and corrupt military.

Of course Putin could start thinning out his already questionable border units to bolster his failures in Ukraine or he could start admitting to the Russian public that it’s going so badly that he needs to start conscripting and partially training more lambs for the slaughter.

So yes, you have a point, Putin could increase the numbers of ill trained, ill equipped, poorly commanded, sullen youths.

After all, he probably sees no need to feed and equip them.

if each does his duty to stop a Ukrainian bullet, eventually the Ukrainians will have no bullets left.

May the pathetic apologists never have live through this type of grief.

People with real power, and who have ethics do not act in this manner.

The butcher in charge is repeating his behaviour from previous incursions and supports of similar butchers.

You are right. Russian TV is already working on it. It is explaining that we cannot lose this war because Russia will be completely destroyed in this case.

Because all Russians will die from shame?

The liberation of Bucha, northwest of Kyiv, was cause for celebration, but sickening pictures of what Russian troops left behind is shaking the world. After several weeks of Russian occupation, Ukrainian forces, reporters, and humanitarian groups arriving in the town found streets littered with civilian bodies, civilian mass graves, and evidence of mass civilian executions, of torture, and other war crimes. Some Russian vehicles destroyed as they tried to flee the region were loaded with looted civilian goods—a sign that even as Russia was readying for retreat, thievery remained at the top of individual unit agendas.

The same thing happened in 1941-1945. During the first year of the war, people did not want to fight. People were not taking the war seriously, as if it had been a short Special Mission. About 3 million people surrendered and were taken by the enemy. After that the others saw that surrender=death. And this mobilized economy and soldiers a lot. Simply because everyone wanted to survive.
So I am sure Vlad will have 30 million of highly motivated Russians soon.

As you said

surrender =death, as carried out by the Russian invaders in Ukraine to civilians, as being filmed and investigated as we speak.  Probably the only true comment you have made in in your puerile apologist posts.

Go check with the embassy as to what you should respond

Those unarmed civilians provoked the Russian soldiers so they tied their hands up and shot them. Then they buried them in mass graves. Good luck with that. Sounds like an excuse for further atrocities after their baseless demand is refused. Either that or they're trying to create a narrative to excuse their war crimes. Biden was right on message, Putin cannot remain as head of state in Russia. Once he is indicted for war crimes the country will be forever under sanctions until Putin faces a trial in the Hague.

Oooh, I'll bet that has Putin shaking in his shoes. If a trial that will likely have no effect on Putin and a few other high ranking Russians is all that the west is going to do, I'm happy about that as WW3 will do no one any good whatsoever.

I dare say Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic thought they were perfectly fine when the International Court opened cases against them, especially with them being on the winning side in Serbia, and all.

Didn't work out too well for them in the end though, did it?

I have never been to Bucha so I don't know the truth about this place. But I live in the 21th century, not the 19th. So I know that there is informational front in any war also.
Let's imagine that you are a military general somewhere in the Middle East and you have to make a hard decision between death of 3000 soldiers(in a real battle) or 300 civilians(in an informational battle). What would you choose? I think you would want to choose the 3rd option with 0 deaths. But there is no such an option in any war.

Well we all are only too well aware what was and is being done in Syria (middle east) with the support and arms supplied by Putin and his cronies

23,400 civilian deaths

Overall, Russia has been linked by other sources to as many as 23,400 civilian deaths and 41,000 injuries in Syria.22 Mar 2022

Hopefully the Russian people are smart enough to understand that losing to Ukraine won't destroy, or significantly damage Russia.  It would probably destroy Putin, but that would be good for Russia.

Is Russia saying that Ukraine is committing major atrocities against it's own citizens in order to make Russia look bad?  And doing it without any Ukrainians witnessing and reporting on it?

Does Putin think anyone outside of Russia will believe this?  Does anyone inside Russia believe it?

Its all about Putin. If he can sell a loss as a win there may be hope.

You are completely right. Russia can only get about half a million as an invader in any war. Vlad knows it very well. So there are only 2 options: 1) Russia will lose this war 2) Vlad will transform this war`s ideology from "invasion" into the Great Patriotic War to re-establish the Soviet Union.

70% of Russians believe it. For long 15 years, Putin’s propaganda taught Russians not to believe their eyes but to propagandists on TV or on the internet who will find a way to excuse any crime that Putin’s regime may commit and to blame it on the victims instead. Ukrainians killed hundreds of Ukrainians in Bucha just to make Putin look bad? Easy! Russian society is seriously ill.

What is the main goal of your ministry of defense? Saving lives, right? Sometimes you can minimize victims exactly this way. Man, this is war, you cannot stop deaths, you can only minimize them.

By stopping the war you stop deaths. Simples. There is one nation which should stop this war right now.

The sad thing is that in WWII the Russians fought the German army, which killed, tortured and raped many Russian people and stole just about anything they could get their hands on. And now there is more and more evidence every day that the Russian army is doing exactly the same thing in Ukraine. It’s like we’re going back to the Dark Ages.

I wonder if this has been an order to the soldiers from higher up.

or is because of lack of discipline, lack of training, failing to understand there are rules to be observed or plain hard to gain anything resembling a reasonable life at home ?

It will be interesting should the ICC issue an arrest warrant for war crimes, it will severely limit Putins ability to travel at any time in the future.

Could be all of that, and more. But I find it very hard to understand how enlisted men can commit such (war) crimes without at least the tacit approval of their superiors. Or maybe orders have come down from the Kremlin to create as much chaos and terror as possible, by any means possible.

I was just reading a Russian media source (RIA Novosti) with Google translate from a twitter link and the theme of it was clearly that Ukraine needs to not exist. A total annihilation of Ukraine and a name change. They claimed that Ukrainians were all complicit with the nazi doctrine. A very disturbing read from a major national news outlet in Russia.

Here's a better explainer on the article from a BBC correspondent, I suggest you read the thread.

An op-ed for state news agency RIA Novosti titled "What Russia should do with Ukraine" by pundit Timofei Sergeitsev has created quite a stir today The rhetoric is truly horrific, even by the standards of what I'm used to seeing from pro-Kremlin media Below are a few quotes:

It never seizes to amaze me how so many people are always more than willing to do the dirty work (lie, cheat, misinform, terrorize, torture, kill, and so on and so forth) of the despots and dictators. The Third Reich could never have existed without millions and millions of people knowingly and willingly cooperating with their evil overlords and doing their dirty work for them. Same goes for the Mao and Stalin regimes in China and Russia. And now history is apparently repeating itself in Russia. Just incomprehensible to me, how people keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
