Popular Post Teddy3943
Thailand will not condemn any country, no matter horror actions or severe violation of human rights, as long as it will cost money. Genocide, human rights or ethics, Thai government only thinks about money. This behavior doesn't come from being an undeveloped third world country, no it's a greedy fifth or sixth world country with a government of primates.

Popular Post wensiensheng
I see that the Russian ambassador to Thailand was in Phuket yesterday to dicuss setting up a sister city in Russia for Phuket, the setting up of a Muay Thai boxing camp for Russians and to give assurances that many Russians still wanted to travel to Thailand. The Phuket officials meantime were fawning over him and assured the phuket public that there was no need to worry because Russian tourists would still come. Tone deaf doesn’t begin to describe the self serving posture adopted by Thailand. Edited March 2, 2022 by wensiensheng
PBob
Interesting attitude, I wonder how this will affect the order for ukranian AFV. Would a principled country want to sell arms to one lacking principles. With my Nostradamus hat on I predict a few years from now trouble with China. SE Asian countries baulk at paying the 'vig' on loans to fund various projects and a little anti-chinese sentiment is whipped up. China invades Loas to protect chinese interests/people. The world condemns the action and does nothing and SE Asian countries fall into line with the China demands. Thais think the saying 'kill a chicken to scare the monkeys' is theirs, but its origin is chinese.

Hate to say it but there is an element of truth in your post . However when this event hopefully comes to a safe non-nuclear conclusion , the countries who failed to condemn Russian actions will ostracised . It is my belief that Thailand will follow China to a neutral position and abstain from taking sides .

Popular Post worldview
This response from Khun Don is in line with the gutless response from the other ASEAN Nations - except Singapore - ASEAN is a weak and ineffectual organization and always will be - they can't/won't even condemn atrocities among their own members (Myanmar), so they certainly won't be criticizing Russia - or China - for that matter - I can't help but be reminded of Martin Niemoller's poem - "First they Came" 7
Popular Post Brian Hull
Philosopher John Stuart Mill delivered an 1867 his inaugural address at the University of St. Andrews and stated: “Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” 2
Pabs
Totally Agree, good to see Thailand with taking a common sense approach. Western leaders are pathetic and weak and have only their own interested at stake. Just remember the west unsettled the entire Arabic world over notions of weapons of mass destruction that didnt even exist. 1
Mike Galley
....wil not rush.....but rather wait until Ukraine has been occupied and then congratulate Putin to his "glorious victory" ? Is that the self isolating foreign politics of Thai government ? That ridge is very narrow, be careful, it can be very harmful for complete Thailand.

flossie35
He's right. War should not have been an option. The west has made it one. When the USSR collapsed the US made a deal with Gorbachev - you don't stand in the way of re-uniting Germany, and we won't move east. Great: end of cold war. But then the west ratted on their promise, inaugurating cold war II, and have been moving east as fast as they can ever since. This makes war an option for Russia - maybe the best option from their point of view? Were they laying a trap for Russia, heedless of possible consequences? Whatever, their irresponsible conduct shares responsibility for the mess we're now in. 1

Tropposurfer
having a moral compass does not necessitate prejudice or inhuman judgement. To the contrary. It requires significant quantities and application of both. Sadly the world we now live in seems to have stepped down yet again to lower depths and absence of both. After all, they didn't "rush" to condemn Japan in December 1941, they simply threw open the doors and said, 'Sawatdee Nipoon', please enjoy a nice long stay here. Some might call this approach realpolitik, but most people have another word for it. 4
