I remember years ago the late K, made yearly speeches on his Birthday one year he address the duel pricing that it gave a black eye to the nation!

 

Then I remember the first year when the current PM was put in office there was also a speech regarding the duel pricing!

 

Both you would think wouldn't go on death ear!  but it shouldn't  be of any surprise for those who reside here and don't have their heads up in darkness all the time thinking what is being said is Thai Bashing.  The people who lead this country and those who will in the future in my lifetime are ALL from the same clothe and those who see the wrong in this are just POWERLESS to do anything about it.

 

I read just the other day a comment, a poster defending the new Governor doing a photo op on dangerous curves he is " trying "  I said he was clueless and powerless nothing more than an photo op I say give it a year if history is any indication of the future I put a bet NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN just like PM, can't fix the traffic in 30 days.

 

The reason it is so hot in Thailand and so much smoke in Bangkok is the result of the hot air that comes from the leaders mouth!

 

I have a advantage that I look like them, I've been to this parks my Thai family knows it so I never have to worry about duel pricing I just stand back and shut my mouth. But once in Pattaya my son and his friend wanted to go to see " Believe it or Not "  I ask how much of course duel pricing for me I've seen it many times since I lived in S.F. I decline and said just the kids after the kids went in the guy actually had the nerve to address me with the price!  I basically told him in split Thai and English do you actually know who you are working for an American or foreign company how would you feel if they wouldn't pay you the minimum wage Thailand has impose and pay you like a Thai company?

 

My Thai neighbor a nice couple just a year ago for whatever reason duel pricing came up I was real polite in my answer she said we should pay more because we have more money just like the Thai courts who recently reaffirm it was O.K. for hospital private or public to charge us more.  I said if you were visiting or living in the U.S. and when to work at McDonalds would you be happy to pay more for your burger and work for less.

 

In both of the cases the conversation pretty much ended with their heads down silent!  that is when you stop and know you have made your point regardless nothing is going to change with anything people here will continue to do what they are doing. They are taught only one thing they have been doing this for centuries and will as long as I'm alive!

All you can do is boycott places that do it, and very clearly object to it on forums, and social media platforms like FaceBook and Twitter. You know how much Thais hate their bad practices to be publicly exposed for the world to see. Maybe one day they'll be shamed into doing the right thing.

 

Surely that's got to be better than trying to justify it, or pretending it's OK?

Isn't Koh Samet a well-known fee trap? In that they only inform you of the entrance fee when you get off the ferry? Not before you travel.

next weekend a group of my family are going to a national park  in phetchabun..ive been before i paid 10 times more than my son i paid 5 times more than my wife and family friends  not just the cost but the principal hate having to pay it but what do i do

They already have an expat ID card which is the pink foreigners card.

Read a story about 1 year ago. A foreign man living in Thailand sued a hospital for dual pricing. He lost. Judge said it was good for the Thai economy. It's one thing to charge more for tourist attractions and another for medical. Seems many people don't mind paying a little higher price. For me price isn't the issue. The problem for me is I like many things and people in Thailand I think they are taking advantage of tourists. I won't be going to many of these places.

Many times I have been able to get the Thai price.  Mostly by telling them in Thai that I was Thai or sometimes showing them my drivers license.  But I have not been to any parks in quite a few years now.

 

Sometimes I tell them my wife is a US citizen but they still give her the Thai price.

Pretty hard to know about Samet, and not know it's a national park.

Pretty easy as a tourist to only know that Samet is an island. And have no idea that the entire island is a national park with an entrance fee.

What site doesn't mention it being a park when saying how wonderful it is.

 

Who doesn't check, how to get there, and what's the cost, fees are involved.  

 

If people are that stupid, they really shouldn't be traveling internationally.

I'd respectfully disagree.

 

1. They hate foreigners looking down on them. They might seem like they don't care, but actually they just don't know. My ex was horrified when I told her about the reputation of Thai women abroad. She thought they were revered.

 

2. If this starts turning up on potential tourists Facebook/Twitter feed, it WILL cost them money. I'd argue it already is if you look at the state of tourism (obviously Covid is the main cause it's fallen off the cliff, but Thailand's deteriorating reputation for these things won't be helping matters).

The park government with the dual price system is leading the way and then unfortunately many other industries are copying it.

- Hospital bills

- Massage shops

- Muai Thai Stadiums

- Hairdressers

- Restaurants

- Pharmacies

- Shops without price labels

- Tuk Tuk rides

Caucasians and long noses are the target. Tricking a few extra baht out of this group is Thailand's national sport.

Plus, does that money really serve to maintain those parks properly? From what I have read ( I stopped going many years ago) some of those parks look like nobody is taking care. The last time I went, it was in koh Hong in the late 90’s and it was a real garbage dump.

My Thai motor and scooter mechanics keep the car and scooter running like Swiss watches, at low cost. The car is 16 yo, the scooter is 14.

The most I was ever scammed out of was 1000 baht, the first week I was here. Gave it by mistake to a tuk-tuk driver, who took off like a scared rabbit.

I've loaned small amounts to Thais, not expecting to get the money back. Most of the time, it is repaid.

Thais tell you what they think you want to hear. That's not considered as lying by them.

OTOH, I can remember two farangs who individually could have separated me from a lot of my money, if my BS meter had not been set at 10.

Let's face it, there are scammers in every country on the planet. IMO Thais are no better or worse than any other nationality.

Have been to some places before , Had Lady Digger ask the Prices,

when not the same for Thais and Foreigners we said thank you we changed our mind and left.
