June 14 (UPI) -- Pope Francis on Tuesday again denounced Russia's bloody war in Ukraine -- and again suggested that perhaps Moscow was baited into invading the former Soviet republic.

In an interview with Jesuit magazine La Civiltà Cattolica, the pontiff called for an immediate end to the fighting in Ukraine, and cautioned against viewing the war as battle between good and evil.

Previously, Francis condemned the war as a "macabre regression of humanity" and said he was willing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss an end to the hostilities, despite the centuries-long tensions between the Russian and Catholic Orthodox churches.

...

"A couple of months before the war started I met a head of state, a wise man, who speaks very little, very wise indeed," Francis told the magazine. "He told me that he was very concerned about the way NATO was moving."

This is Putin's war pure and simple. All he has to do is pull out and let the Ukraine people rebuilt their country and bury their dead.

He should keep his nose out of politics and instead ensure all the pedophiles in his own global business are handed over to the police.

Pope Francis???

Why would anyone listen the the views of a witch Doctor, especially one who talks to imaginary images and allows his employees to carry out appalling abuses on his customer database?

This man should be tried and sentenced for the crimes committed under his rule.

A bit like girls outside bars in soi 6 baiting married men to enter. The men wanted to be baited otherwise they would not have gone there and Putin has wanted to grab Ukraine for a long time but was waiting for an excuse..

But there is no excuse. Just people doing what they wanted to do all along.

seriously ?
i cracked up when i read that header.

Where did the writer get this from. There is very little difference between the ideologies of the churches except for some obscure doctrine that led to disagreement over 1000 years ago.

It has been reported that the Russian church supports Putin but with all the BS around these days who would know.

A post with an unsourced graphic also lacking any weblink to the source has been removed.

Very annoying and decidedly unhelpful. It would be best if he keeps his papal mouth well shut in future on this subject.

NATO is striving for peace in the world.

Fortunately papal infalability is confined to apostolic matters.

On this one he is plain wrong.

Peace through expansion! Is a little bit more correct statement! But to keep peace war is a tool ????

since october vatican is spooked by nuclear threat, armageddon in Biden's speech and calls for ceasefire and offers mediation.

In yesterday's open letter pope asks kiev again for concessions to get peace deal.

For vatican it's now beyond who provoked the war. Points to lives Ukraine is losing and economical damage.

but kiev is not having any of it. Calls vatican embassador in kiev for pope's remark, that assassination of a journalist Daria Dugina done by death squat in Moscow, was a senseless act on an innocent person.

It looks like kiev doesn't want diplomatic solution and they believe they can win on battlefield.

There was a peace deal at the very beginning of April, which was allegedly torpedoed by boris johnson's secret visit to kiev.

Can you link to your claim "since october vatican is spooked by nuclear threat, armageddon in Biden's speech"

Whats missed from that article.

Pope links plight of Ukrainians today to Stalin’s ‘genocide’

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis on Wednesday linked the suffering of Ukrainians now to the 1930s “genocide artificially caused by Stalin,” when the Soviet leader was blamed for creating a man-made famine in Ukraine believed to have killed more than 3 million people.

Francis’ linking of the plight of Ukrainian civilians today to those killed by starvation 90 years ago, and his willingness to call it a “genocide” caused by Josef Stalin, marked a sharp escalation in papal rhetoric against Russia.

You've now backtracked to a much earlier message from the Pope dated 26th Aug yet used the narrative "but kiev is not having any of it"

You missed all the peace deals Putin refused even a couple of days into the war, you also missed where Zelensky publicity offered not to join NATO for a peace deal but was ignored by Russia, this also has nothing to do with an unproven link to Boris who is off topic anyway

vatican pushes for a diplomatic solution, offering help with mediation.

Even more so after escalation to nuclear threats.

what I wanted to show is an example, that kiev is not into tolerating even pope's small remark about killing of moscow journalist.

It unnecessarily strains relations with vatican. But also such actions strain relations with the USA, showing ukraine as a rogue country

Agreed, from Oct

Pope Francis has for the first time directly appealed to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to stop the “spiral of violence and death” in Ukraine, saying he is haunted by “rivers of blood and tears”.

The head of the Catholic Church also condemned the annexation of four regions of Ukraine, saying it risked nuclear escalation and urged Putin to think of his own people during an address dedicated to Ukraine in St Peter’s Square.

“I strongly deplore the grave situation that has been created in the last few days, with more actions that are contrary to the principles of international law,” Francis said in a clear reference to the annexation.

Pure speculation.

It could be that the Pope initially thought that he would be joined in his call for peace by part of the Russian orthodox Church. However, most of the Russian orthodox church is still in holy war mode, so this tactic has been proven useless.

Also Angela Merkel in her recent interview with Der Spiegel expressed her disappointment that she could not persuade - in her last ruling days - the other EU leaders for an independent European discussion format thru European Council with Putin.

Because, by then, the MInsk agreements were eroded. That's why the Russian-Ukraine conflict did not come as a surprise...
