Bill Clinton says he’s never before been so concerned about the country’s foundational future, lamenting there’s a “fair chance” that the United States could “completely lose our constitutional democracy.”

 

The former president appeared Wednesday on CBS’s “The Late Late Show” and responded to a question from host James Corden that alluded to Donald Trump’s presidency without mentioning the ex-commander in chief by name.

“I actually think there’s a fair chance that we could completely lose our constitutional democracy for a couple of decades if we keep making — if we make bad decisions,” Clinton, 75, said.

Clinton’s remarks come a day after a poll found that nearly half of all Americans believe the U.S. might “cease to be a democracy in the future.”

To start America is a Republic, and the hole that Biden is digging for America we may never get out of. He knows what he has to do so why doesn't he do it? Party first, America last? Why does he do this?

Such trivial nonsense. The United States is a democratic republic. That is, it functions as a democracy with certain limitations incorporated into its constitution designed to protects the rights of individuals against majority overreach.

Unfortunately it would be a pretty small step from where things stand. Many news reports from the U.S. in recent years are fit for a Banana Republic, not for the leading country of the free world.

IMO if social media continues to publish lies and fabrications without any semblance of fact-checking, Clinton may well be right.

TBH, I can't see any difference between Putin and Trump. One is a dictator who has shut down all independent media in Russia to promote his "special military operation" and "denazifying"  BS with the population. Trump would love to be able to do the same in America.

Admittedly Trump has not poisoned anyone, except with toxic rhetoric against his opponents. Both are identical in being thieves and sociopaths.

Venezuela was a democracy that had lots of money.  My question is why do they blame trump.  Whether he was a good president or not the socialist democrats have spent the last 5 years fixated on trump and have not tried to gain bipartisan agreement on anything.

 

It is time for the house and senatsnore to get new blood in charge.

 

It is time for younger leadership.

You do realize the US having cordial and respectful relationships with NK and Russia was a huge success for Trump. It was his art of the deal in practise, keeping everyone safer.

Trump attempted to facilitate Putin's invasion of Ukraine by blocking weapons supplies. Trump is Putin's Manchurian Candidate.

NK resumed its frequent missile testing early 2019. Experts think that the pause between 2017 and 2019 was corresponding to the timing of different R&D programs.

 

In case you did not notice, during Trump's mandate, there has been a pandemic and energy price was low. It wasn't a good time for Russia to start a war with a rather large country such as Ukraine.

Impossible. Her views are very right wing. She could start a third party of real anti Trumpist republicans though.

Bill Clinton needs to reflect a bit on what part he took in diminishing democracy. First of all, during his terms in office many regulations on large corporations were relaxed enabling multiple mergers, thus lessening competition. Next, during Clinton's years in office, the Glass- Steagall act was repealed ending many banking regulations which in turn opened the doors for banks to engage in riskier investments and plod in financial endeavors that had been restricted since the Great Depression.

 

How does this threaten democracy? Corporations are more powerful than ever in 2022. 

The relaxing of regulations on banks fast forwarded the flow of money into the political system Thus creating the financial means for corporations to hire a multitude of lobbyists to do their bidding in Washington.

 

Clinton was creative in his efforts to raise money for the Democrats. In one of his classic Clintonian  bids to raise money, he auctioned off one night lodging in the Lincoln room at the White House to the highest bidder. This shed light on a new political culture emerging in the USA in the 1990s: namely that anything was fair game and open to commodification.  In his zeal to raise money, Clinton stained one of the American people's most cherished landmarks: The White House.

 

This has devolved into our current situation where we have members of Congress "whoring for corporations".  Members of Congress are beholden to the wealthy donors. When nearly 50% of Americans favor gun regulation, yet Congress takes no action and when nearly  50% of the people in the US are pro-choice, yet abortion rules seem to be tightening year by year, I would say representative democracy is being strangled.

Clinton is not responsible for all of this but he certainly got the ball rolling much faster during his eight years in office. His administration had a big role in creating the political culture we have today which many define as "less democratic."

 

 

Anybody paying attention to the Jan 6 hearings will understand how near the US came to losing its democracy.

IMO the politicians need to be accounted for by the people of the US. The party’s fighting instead 

of doing what’s best for the country and if any politicians fail to do their job fire them .. no benefits
