PM Prayut admits to being sole coup-maker, as Deputy Prawit defends himself in censure debate

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has admitted to being the individual behind the May 2014 coup in Thailand, as he raised his hand, quite proudly, when referred to by his Deputy Prawit Wongsuwan, during the second day of censure debate yesterday (Wednesday).

 

Prawit, was defending himself against the Opposition’s claims of his role in the coup and the luxury watches he claimed had been borrowed from his friend and had not declared as assets.

 

The prime minister’s smiling response to Prawit’s claim provoked and outbreak of laughter in the House. After the parliamentary session, Prayut told reporters, “I need to take the responsibility, because I did it.”

 

Prawit told parliament that Prayut Chan-o-cha was responsible for the putsch, which toppled the elected caretaker government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who had already been removed due to a court case against her controversial rice pledging policy.

So Gen Watchman had nothing to do with the coup whatsoever. Who’d have guessed. He was very lucky to get such a big job in the coup government in that case.

Are coups not illegal?? Why is he still in power than.. He should be punished in court , surely after the elections of last time as democracy was restored..... But Oh I forgot.. This is Thailand

Only in Thailand when someone admit that he is the sole coup maker and get away with it. This is a sickening mentality among some generals that staging a coup is their entitlement and they are doing the country a favour. Every coup is a body blow to the image of Thailand's political stability and economy. The generals are doing a hideous disservice to the country and ought to stand trial for illegal seizure of a legimate elected government.

That itself was a mockery of a constitution when written by long supporter of coups Meechai Ruchupan. Besides the controversy of writing amnesty for crimes relating to the coup, he paved the way for a non-elected to be appointed as prime minister.

Wouldn't it be just so darn satisfying to see police/soldiers marching in and rudely cuff him and then with great fanfare march him off to a damp and dark jail cell!

OK, Prayut is the "sacrificial lamb" as his term is already more than eight years - even if he would have been voted into office back in May 2014 ......... 

Prawit got up from his nap to possibly get his nappies changed and the rest knows, that it was not Prayut who was the coup leader but just a soldier serving his country against the so evil elected government of Yingluck and the puppet master in Dubai. Latter got "dethroned" the night before he was to address the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

What a smart planning that was ............ Back then was this Prayut as well? Just asking for a friend......

And we forgot that such activities require special permission, instigating and authority from a higher plain, and historically always been of this nature. 

The crux that doesn't truly seem to be understood by most.

That is simply not possible. Higher authority was incapacitated at the time and remained so.

Yet Western countries turn a convenient blind eye to it, continue to trade with them and allow them to become members of international organisations.

If this Junta was shunned by the West until a democratically elected government was chosen then things might be different.

Well maybe, but not anywhere near as serious as unspecified allegations of anti-monarchy activities.

 

Anyway, it is covered by the amnesty issued by, umh, himself as it happens.

If Thailand were shunned by the West it would be even more dependent and beholding to China.

There will never be a free, open or democratic way as long as the quasi-hidden corrupt and criminal influential  tradition is pulling the strings.
