There are charging devices all over the place .

Do you think that he should have bought  house, rather than a phone ?

You are funny. Free charging too. I've never seen that.

You said he didn't buy a phone.

You said that he did buy a phone  and I took your word for it .

Public libraries have phone chargers, as do bus shelters and other public places

Unlikely, having read the whole thread with regards to his alleged situation.

I wonder where he charges his device.

Library, drop in centre, church, gym, swimming pool, cafe ...... to name just a few.

Local swimming pool is a useful place, access to showers, toilets, sinks, not to mention warm.

Was watching a YouTube of middle class American homeless, they sleep in their cars and join a gym or pool for hygiene.

Exactly my point. He has purchased a mobile device and an internet connection. He has money.

Phone 50 pounds, home 200,000 pounds.

Where are you at the moment, is it still Brighton ? And what do you most need  - PM me if you're not comfortable posting. Sorry to hear of your continuing troubles, it's bloody cold at the moment and must have been terrible over the Christmas period.

He has no money. Remember? He's getting no help. Remember?

He's had all the sympathizers on here hook, line and sinker.

He has no money. It doesn't matter what things cost if you have no money.

By the way, that wasn't my comparison.

Difference between having no money and not having enough money.

All sorts of hoops to jump through before you can rent a place, right to rent, a year's rent in advance if no references, etc. You can't even start claiming a state or occupational pension without an address and a positive credit check at that address.

I'd be in the same position as the OP if I returned to the UK. My choices would be live in a van (no insurance, tax or driving licence as no address) or commit a serious crime and live in a nice comfy heated cell.

I'm not sure I like either of those 2 options.

You've clearly not been keeping up.

He said he did have money. Spent it in the pub.

Now he says he doesn't have money.

If I was him I'd sleep under a bridge, with the rest.

He bought a couple of pints in a pub 18 months ago , he went to a pub looking for a friend .

That ten quid spent in a pub 18 months ago wouldn't have lasted to this day, had he not bought two beers

In my teens I read Orwells Down and Out in London and Paris and found it very interesting.  Not long after I tried it myself , mostly sleeping rough on the beaches and hills of Ios in Greece but sometimes staying in cheap Greek islanders houses who were always ready to rent out a room if their son was in the army or something.

Since the OP has a smartphone he should consider vlogging about his experience  like the other half of the planet. Not nice to have to prostitute yourself on YouTube like millions of others but it would be a sight more interesting than most of the garbage out there and might eventually bring in some money.

"Sunk a few beers" is what he said.

Shortly after having said how careful he needs to be with his money.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. It's all Jackanory.

Yes, I know, I read it myself .

Should have saved that ten quid and bought house with it , then he would have somewhere to live

Sarcasm. That's clever.

£10 for a few beers in Brighton is unlikely. Probably double that. A lot for someone supposedly down and out and trying to be careful with money.

Look on the bright side.

You’ve found someone on the lower rungs of the ladder of human misery.

You can look down on him and feel better about yourself.

Not needing to troll for something to do in life?

Then I agree with you. I do feel better.

Forgive me for thinking all your self preening and moralizing as you lecture on the situation the OP finds himself in was trolling.

But I do accept that it probably makes you feel better about yourself.

Not at all.

I've never felt the need to lecture

about others. which I've not done here, to appreciate my own life, my achievements, my family or my current situation. They all speak for themselves.

However, I thank you for your concern.

At last!

I've managed to find a landlord  who will accept me with no references.

Been in this bijou flat for a few months. Landlord happy with the arrangement.

Not so lucky on the work front, despite multiple attempts.

Interesting replies to my initial posts.

I've never owned a smartphone. Have a dumb phone given to me by day centre.

Have a tablet which was bought in more affluent days.

Charging free in libraries and day centres.

Also use free computers in the library and day centres.

But, what I have come on here for, is to give some blindingly obvious advice. (And to ignore any replies from Mr Jackanory.)

Don't come back to your original country and hope for everything to fall into place.

Things have fallen into place for me with all my madcap ideas throughout my life, but not this one.

It's aged me, my personality is shot to pieces, and my faith in humanity is almost entirely gone.

What a blunder to make.

But, I'm in a much better situation after over two years on the bench.

I won't go into details as FB fiends are everywhere.

Glad to hear you are finally heading in the right direction.

Some of us on here have been routing for you and understand how these situations can arise.

Wish you well and continued improvement in your situation.

Things do fall into place, takes time, takes some time too.     Jobs?  Obv depends where u are,   Tesco 3 and 5 hour shifts 90 quid a shift,   bus drivers 15 to 18 quid an hour in next county, firms on bended knees looking for class 1 HGV drivers, the govt will probably pay for training.  Do not think I'll stay indef  here, seems too much like hard work, but the flights are getting cheaper  400 plus return on some   anyway good luck  its chasing paddy around the bogside wiv me tin 'at on that paved a more than welcome RTN to uk

Brighton is a good choice ,good health care and night life good ,prices for flats maybe pricy so move along to hove, but parking is very bad tho ,so an e-bike to get round the town and it  is hilly in places ,you can bike along the front for a bracing ride of the sea air, ….gets busy on a sunny Sunday with day trippers

Move along to Hove? You don't know the area that well, do you?

You'll pay more in Hove than Brighton now. He'll need to move further out to Portslade or Southwick, although not so nice, much cheaper.

Not much use to someone who was homeless, you know, the point of this thread
