Thailand and foreign embassies prepare for influx of foreign criminals in 22/23 High Season

The Thai police are concerned that more tourists coming into the country in the October to February High Season will mean one thing for sure.

More criminals coming into the country under the guise of tourism.

They don't want foreign criminals, they want quality tourists, said a spokesman.

With this in mind the Tourist Police in cooperation with 18 mostly European embassies and the Immigration Bureau have been working on measures to cope.

They want to be able to swiftly deport undesirable elements back to where they came from.

The no messing approach was announced yesterday by tourism police spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Aphichart Suribunya after orders from tourism police chief Pol Lt-Gen Sukhun Phrommayon.

On board are 18 embassies namely Austria, Belgium, the UK, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia and Switzerland. (Siam Rath seemed to have omitted one in their report but said that 15 were European embassies).

Apichart said that discussions would take place to determine what action would be taken if criminals slipped through the net and managed to get into the country.

The cooperation between the Thai police and the embassies is also to promote quality and sustainable tourism and show that Thailand has a safe and sustainable environment for foreign tourists.

This is in line with tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan and RTP Chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk's policies.

Following meetings among 40 reps at tourism police HQ yesterday the reps were taken to see what arrangements are in place at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport.

Jomtiem Immigration lectured my wife on this being why it's imperative that she file a TM30 form informing Immigration of my whereabouts in a timely manner.

When the wife tried to express the absurdity of that explanation she was told to watch a video explaining the dangers of harboring foreign criminals.

What about the Chinese, Philippine, Cambodian, Vietnamese & South Korean criminals??? .............LOL

Well at least those criminals with VISA exempt entry  can stay for 45 days now instead of 30. Perhaps TAT and the government should have discussed the issue with the RTP and the embassies first but surely with Phuket and Pattaya being the apparent preferred locations for criminals to stay at least they can concentrate their efforts there.

What? Do you you live in the age before modern technology? Why would you need to check foreign criminals against a list? You make it sound as manual work that no one will bother with. Do you know that all the information is already in the systems, or can be put in and updated. After that, the system will alert as they have both passport, name, numbers as well as face and fingerprint biometrics.

I think it´s great that they are trying to keep the country clean of unwanted people. They have enough to deal with in their own population. If it was up to me, all people that breaks any of the laws in a country they choose to live in should be deported.

Criminals or not, lots of frozen Euros will be trying to find some place warm to camp out the winter. That ought to make for an equally large amount of criminal overstayers.

Here we go again... Tourists = potential criminals who come here to 'hide'. - There's two easy solutions, with a similar outcome, i.e. 'no tourism income':

1. Seal the border.

2. Ask every tourist for a police report.

'show that Thailand has a safe and sustainable environment for foreign tourists.'

Pretend, surely? Not show, as that would be dishonest...

Honestly, it's like a playground full of 12 year olds.

And 3) stop flights from Russia.

Criminal convictions should be on a persons record so that it can be seen at immigration.... as far as I am concerned, they can be sent straight home.

WHY "THEY" WILL CHOOSE THAILAND AND NOT THE OTHER STATES WITHIN ASEAN?

????????????

So, they're saying that 'Thailand is a haven for criminals'? - Good to know. So, to make sure that people in other countries don't think bad of me, I'll tell them that, yes, I live in Asia, but, no, I'd never travel to Thailand, cause it has such a bad reputation of being a hiding place for international criminals and all...

No country in their right mind would share sensitive information about its own citizens with the Thai Police!
