webfact Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Daily News Thai Caption: Shocking pack of soi dogs Residents of a community in Surin, NE Thailand, turned to the Thai media in frustration after their local authority have done nothing to solve the problem of soi dogs. A pack of more than twenty fierce animals has been plaguing the Phromthep area for three to four years. They bite and cut in front of motorcycles causing many accidents. One resident called Sak (an assumed name) said that there were four accidents just last week. "The muang tessaban have done nothing to help despite our calls," he said. "So we decided to contact the press". While the Daily News reporters were there one animal started barking quickly followed by five or six others. Picture: Daily "They've been there was years," he said pointing to the area by a dirt track leading to a warehouse. "They breed and there's always a new one to join those biting the residents". The residents hope by getting some national attention the authority will be forced to act. Thais are reluctant to take matters into their own hands, notes ASEAN NOW due in no small part to animal cruelty laws that can see people jailed. There is also the Buddhist aspect of live and let live. Some feel dogs get a better deal than people. Also there are dog lovers who come out and feed the pests thinking they are doing a good deed can also be a major part of a problem that exists throughout Thailand. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post daveAustin Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 Major problem all over Thailand. One of the many things expected the junta to get a handle on but they went the other way. Bizarre. Nothing speaks louder than third world than packs of feral dogs on every street corner! 17

Popular Post proton Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 When were soi dog foundation ever up there? useless foundation more like. Mass culling along with offering a bounty on dead dogs handed in should be a start, and carried on for months. The reluctance to do anything has little to do with Buddhism, more a certain book which cannot be mentioned. 5 1 1 1
Popular Post proton Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 'There is also the Buddhist aspect of live and let live. Some feel dogs get a better deal than people' Utter nonsense millions of animals are killed year on year in Thailand for 'animal lovers' to eat. Dogs are a protected species for reasons which cannot be talked about. 4 1 1

Popular Post JackGats Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 Three years ago I was at a hotel in Chaweng Beach (Samui). There was a large snapshot of a dog that really looked ill, with a warning that said "if you see this dog do not go near him". I was flabbergasted. Here was an animal known most probably to have rabies, and all people concerned looking the other way. 4
Popular Post HappyExpat57 Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 I know of a neighborhood where the soi dogs reach critical mass then suddenly disappear semi-annually. No one complains, they're glad to see the beasts gone. 5
portlandtree Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 That semi- Annually is that open hunting season?

MrJ2U Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 These Soi dogs turn descent neighborhood's into menacing dumps. 10 years this has been going on. Everyone chip in and have them all neutered. Not worth going to jail poisoning them. 1
Popular Post jak2002003 Posted September 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 2, 2022 Rural temple near me the dog population is out of control...from 4 or 5 dogs there are over 30. They also all look like clones as they are all completely white and the same size. They kill peoples chickens, they killed someone's baby goats, they bite people, they keep having puppies and then getting diseases and die slowly over a few weeks wasting away. They killed our friends little pet dog and have bitten cows and a horse that were grazing in the rice field. They howl loudly ike a pack of wolves during the night and lay over the road so you can't get past them without them chasing and trying to bite you. Despite this people and the monks keep feeding them. It's crazy no one has sterilised them or 'got rid' of them. By next year there will probably be 50 of them and everyone still moaning but doing nothing. 5 1

proton Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 'Thais are reluctant to take matters into their own hands, notes ASEAN NOW due in no small part to animal cruelty laws that can see people jailed.' Animal cruelty laws appear to be applied only to dogs, any, no matter how diseased or dangerous. Thais are not very concerned about animal welfare when it comes to cock fighting, capturing birds and turtles, not to mention the way livestock get treated or even how they 'look after' their pets. The special status of dogs is there for a reason, and it's not Buddhism. 2
