Are You a Sheep?

Featured Replies

As I said, are you a sheep. do you keep doing things because other people do them. ie do you clink glasses when people are drinking at your table just because the rest are doing it? I don't. I just hate it and it makes me cringe.

Do you grow a beard because others do it? Even good looking guys have beards these days, there was a time when facial hair was grown mostly because the guys had unattractive faces.

Do you wear certain clothes because others wear them?  What about hair styles? I have the same hair style now as I had in my thirties and it has never changed.

What about you?

So...  someone who clinks their glasses, grows a beard or dresses & has their hair cut to fashion is a sheep, implying they are absent of intelligence and individual thought ?????   I’d

Beards have been grown also for centuries, and in some religions are mandatory, good looking or not.

I personally do not wear certain clothes just because my GF wears them!   555

And as for your haircut, is it still a mullet?

What is a mullet, can you describe it?

Most people are sheep, sheep at work are the worst. I don't do things because you're meant to do it. Facebook likes and Strava kudos are good examples, plus on here

No! My hair is nothing like that, it completely covers my ears, a little longer at the back, but not short at the front, and comes down to my eyebrows.

I believe you missed a subtle insult. Mullets are loosely associated with uncouth backwoods inbred rednecks.

There's only Mickey D left.

As Brando said when asked "What are you rebelling against?" his reply was "What have you got?"

I’d be more concerned that I judged the character and intelligence of other people based on such minor points above all else !!!  :whistling:

Nope, same hair for over 40 years - only white & less of it...

Never subscribed or surrendered to the herd mentality.....

I did grow a beard, but for a strange reason....People kept telling me I looked like a certain singer....I wanted to look like myself - but it did lead to some interesting interludes....Let me see if I can find an old pic ...

I still have the beard, but not a full beard.....

Old pic found & submitted for laughs (and probably abuse)....

I wouldn't be over here if I followed the herd.... I'd still be slogging away back in the states where one daughter celebrates & misses me & the other one is ticked off she can't get her manipulating talons on me.....

Props to someone brave enough to post a photo of themselves on this forum and, as you pointed out, opened themselves up for laughs and abuse !!! (as my previous post has ! - all in jest of course !)

Clinking glasses is symbolic of medieval times, when a host would exchange some of his wine for that of a guest, to demonstrate the wine was not poisoned.

I grow a naval beard out of laziness, it means I only have to shave every second day.

I don't buy new things to impress friends, neighbors and relatives. I read books by authors many people have never heard of, and listen to classical music. I am not on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. I don't modify the exhaust of my scooter to make it as loud as possible. I only have debit cards, no credit cards. I wear secondhand clothes. I don't eat McDonald's, KFC or Pizza Hut. I use a free Linux OS on my computer devices, in preference to Windows or Apple.

I can't say what classification I fall into. I'm reasonably sure I am not a sheep; however, I would not get my knickers in a twist on something as trivial as clinking glasses.

Of course we are all sheep.

what is your first language op? One you chose or the one from the flock you grew up in?

what's your main carb? The one from the flock back home or did you accept the one from the Thai flock? I'm pretty confident it's not yam, maize, or any other that was outside your particular flock.

I think there are 3 different categories in which you would either behave as a “sheep” or not:

  1. Law and regulations (required behaviour)
  2. Social interactions (expected behaviour)
  3. Individual likings (like fashion, haircut etc.)

You could of course decide to behave as you like in any of these categories but you just must bear the consequences as for all of your actions.

So in a category 1 case I would wear Jacket and tie if a certain restaurant requires it. Otherwise I would not be served. Or I would do a 90 day report. I see no negative notion in these things. Accept it or not or bear the consequences. I would not call that “sheep” behaviour. Sheep factor = 10 for me.

For category 2 certain behaviours are not strictly law or absolutely required but useful. Because they facilitate living together. This may not need to bother you if you are living alone in the middle of nowhere but as soon as if you interact with many different individuals it is wise to adopt to what is an “unwritten” law. Like “wai” back if you are “wai’d” (depending on the situation). Again you could do what you want – and bear the consequences again. You might hopefully know what these are. Your choice. I do not think it is wise to put down people with a negative idea as “sheep” that only like to get along well with others. Sheep factor = 8 for me.

For category 3 this a completely different matter. Of course there is some overlapping with category 2 and 1 (you would not show up in a clown costume at a funeral, neither would you show up with a bathing suit while at work at a bank). But as far as fashion, haircuts etc. are concerned I feel completely free as long there are no mandatory restrictions. I would never follow a fashion trend or cheerish a certain brand as long as I do not like the design. In this regard I am an unconditional “Non-Sheep”. Sheep factor = 0 for me.

I'm a trend setter.

I went grey, then my friends went grey. I got glasses, then my friends got glasses. I put on weight, then my friends put on weight....

Another one for the list:

"Do you emulate 16-year-old girls by constantly seeking attention online through pointing out how you aren't like everyone else?"
