At least 20 people have been killed in a mass shooting in a northeastern province of Thailand, a police spokesperson said on Thursday.

 

“There are at least 20 dead but details were still coming in,” Deputy Police spokesperson Archon Kraitong told Reuters.

More than 30 people killed in mass shooting in Thailand: Police

 

Early reports suggest both children and adults have been killed in the attack.

 

More than 30 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a children’s day-care centre in a northeastern province of Thailand, a police spokesperson said.

 

Victims included both children and adults, police said in a statement on Thursday, adding that the gunman was an ex-police officer and a manhunt was underway.

 

The prime minister has alerted all agencies to take action and apprehend the culprit, a government spokesperson said.

Thai news now saying 32 dead at school. Shooter went home and killed his wife and child. Then shot himself.

Apparently after fleeing the scene of killings, he went home and killed his wife and kid, before shooting himself dead.

A truly horrendous event. Who kills 22 innocent children? What kind of twisted pathology does that require? Notice how the last 2 mass shootings here were a retired cop and a soldier. Two institutions, that do not exactly foster nobility, grace, kindness, goodwill, nor emotional maturity. 

 

Truly glad this is a rare occurance here, relative to the insane and out of control nation I come from, America. My heart goes out to the families who are going to be devastated by the actions of this God forsaken, heinous freak of nature. 

 

I just read that the death toll is up to 31. Got this from the BBC. Just in.

Killing kids is the worst crime.

 

 

I remember in a home safety thread I made people were saying nothing like this can happen in Thailand and it’s super safe…just goes to show anything can happen and you have to be prepared.  
 

Very sad to see something like this, if someone at the school was armed I wonder if so many fatalities would have occurred.

Thirty-four people have been killed, including 22 children, in a mass shooting at a preschool centre in a north-eastern province of Thailand, police have said.

 

The shooting occurred in Na Klang district in Nong Bua Lamphu province during the afternoon, while children at the centre were sleeping. Police said the gunman shot himself, his wife and his child during the incident.

 

Chanpen Dechpok, a village chief, said the children at the centre were of nursery age.

Gunman who massacres 35 people in Nong Bua Lam Phu kills himself
 

 

A former policeman opened fire in a nursery in the northeastern province of Nong Bua Lam Phu, killing at least 35 people, mostly children, police reported as of 3pm.

 

Police said the gunman, identified as Panya Kamlarb, was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and a knife when he barged into the nursery which is located in the office of the Uthai Sawan Tambon Administration in Na Klang district at around 12.10pm.

 

Pol Maj Gen Paisal Luesomboon, deputy commander of Region 4 Police, told Thai PBS in a phone interview that the gunman was apparently under the influence of drugs. Paisal said the gunman is a former policeman who was discharged last year on charge of drug abuse.
