CNN reporters did not intentionally violate crime scene - they are fined 5K each for illegal work

Two CNN reporters who violated the pre-school crime scene in Uthai Sawan district where a former cop shot and stabbed dozens of people including many children last Thursday have been fined.

Daily News had a picture of the reporters - named earlier as Anna Coren, 47 from Australia and Daniel Hodge, 34 from Britain - talking to RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat and his deputy Pol Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan.

Surachate said that he was satisfied that the reporters did not intentionally violate the crime scene and that they had asked "Can I come in?"

They had been shown inside where they started filming and were later seen going over a fence after crime scene tape was put in place.

This had followed a wreath laying ceremony.

Surachate said it might have been a case of "miscommunication".

What was established was that the reporters had flown into Thailand from Hong Kong following the massacre.

After the incursion into the crime scene they had not fled Thailand but gone to stay in Udon Thani.

Their actions were not intentional.

They had tourist visas and were not allowed to work so both were fined 5,000 baht and escorted to the airport to leave by police.

They said they both wanted to leave as soon as possible anyway. CNN was embarrassed by the incident that called into question press ethics.

Damrongsak said that the case would not result in the pair being blacklisted but that the RTP had asked for their footage to be deleted.

ASEAN NOW notes that pictures of a red carpet being unfurled were widely shared on social media along with a ceremony with many people in uniform.

A wreath was being laid for an important person.

This itself has been criticized in some quarters.

Time to move on from this "non-story" now.  There are real issues to be discussed about this horrendous crime and stop the deflecting onto journalists who are just doing their job.

I don't understand why everybody is making such a fuzz about 2 reporters who did nothing wrong, except doing their work while on a tourist visa. The Thai media and many Thai sites publish this stor

Hate those overly aggressive reporter! They'll say and do anything for a story.

I had a lot of Thai friends and locals that hated Nick Robertson for all the one sided reporting he did in Thailand when there was the red shirt take protest.

This is most sensible thing that I have read about this hoo-ha.

Face saving measures have been put in place for all parties, and an assurance that this will never happen again I am sure has been made, by both sides of the equation.

How if it has already been put out into the world wide press and viewed.  Not sure it can just disappear, well it can be scrubbed to a degree, but the dark web will have it somewhere forever.

Getting lectured to by Big Joke was punishment enough.

Simply amazing that rather than deal with the real issues this CNN story remains in the news.

Meanwhile, any reporting on the real incident...crickets.

Except that it will happen again and again, like everything else around here.

Already seen the footage on CNN several times, a couple of days ago.

this is because the big issue is that CNN is international media. The government doesnt care about the news being shared within thailand. However, CNN was committing the most heinous crime there is in thailand, that of damaging the image of the country.

Did he lecture them? What did he say to them? Do you know? Can he speak English?

Can any of the current batch of snr. police speak English?

Poor judgement by CNN and questionable actions by the officials...wink wink.

Judging by the photo I guess he had to speak up to them rather than speak down to them

I think one of the things that has people angry is the smirk/grin on Anna Coren's face in the picture that caught them jumping over the police line. To emerge from the scene of a mass murder with blood still covering the place wearing such a triumphant smirk on her face for getting the "scoop" reveals character--or lack thereof.

CNN should NEVER be in the same sentence as

Ethics, News, Journalism.

BROUGHT AND PAID FOR should though!!

Deported in shame, at least it's something but no apology, disgraceful.

CNN will want to drop this.  I am sure that considering the new owners are trying to improve the company's image, this is not what they had in mind.

As to the reporter, I think it might be best to go back to Aus and try a different business.  She is not going to move very far up the food chain with CNN

RTP could have charged them with more (forget about someone giving them permission) that person would disappear.

Charging them and getting them out of the country was the fastest and easiest way to resolve this for everyone.

Sorry, I had to chuckle at that!

Pretty hard after their ridiculous biased report re Trump.

They tend to do it themselves, damaging thailand

check all YouTubers for a work permit.  they are "reporting" on Thailand.

If anyone asks me a question, I'll ask them, "Are you a reporter, falang?!!!"  fined, deported.

If CNN is "working" while walking off the plane, demand a work permit!!!

Now, I'll admit I have "worked" as an online investigator for our stories of falangs jumping off buildings, and I do feel as though I worked a little bit to reach my conclusion.

falang.............10000000000000000000000000000000 fine and deported.

I'll wait for the smart car.  bags packed
