Two French men in a Porsche charged with serious assault after apparent unprovoked attack on Thai man

A Thai woman has described how she was going home with her husband on a motorcycle on the holiday island of Koh Samui in southern Thailand when they were followed by two foreign men in a red plate white Porsche. 

 

One of the men got out and attacked her husband who thought they were lost and wanted directions. He was knocked to the sidewalk.

The swaggering foreigners - as described by Daily News - then fled the scene.

 

Somkhuan Songkhot is battling for his life in hospital after surgery for a brain hemorrhage. 

 

A clip of the violence that left the victim knocked out shocked netizens. The incident that happened on Saturday evening at 9.40 pm blocked the road leading to Chaweng Beach.

Bo Phut police chief Pol Col Yuthana Sirisombat sent in his men who yesterday arrested two French nationals that we'll call Joseph, 34, and Rene, 28.

 

The media had a picture of their car with the red plate (meaning that it was probably brand new) with the registration number ก-9999 (Bangkok).

 

They have both been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and detained. Bail was denied because of the brazen nature of the attack.

Netizens reacted with outrage at the brutish behavior of foreigners.

 

Lakkhana, 47, the wife of the victim said that her husband had come to pick her up at Central Samui where she works as a maid.

 

The luxury car passed them on their motorcycle and she remarked "What a beautiful car, when are we going to get one!".

She said they passed the car as they were leaving the shopping center but it then chased them and started honking its horn.

 

Seeing that there were two foreigners in the car and thinking they might be lost Somkhuan stopped outside a 'moo katha' shop to help.

 

The passenger in the Porsche then got out and hit her husband knocking him down and out.

The assailants then drove back in the direction they came as a member of the public came to the couple's assistance and called rescue.

 

The victim is in a critical condition after being transferred to Koh Samui Hospital.

 

He is unresponsive after brain surgery.

 

The wife thanked the police for their quick arrests. 

 

Thai media Naew Na had what appeared to be screenshots from the violent attack.

BTW, that number plate would have cost a mighty packet and would not be on a tourists brand new Porsche.

So the car was chasing them and beeping, then the Thais thought the foreigners might be lost so they stopped to help? Doesn't sound credible to me. If I had to guess, there was some back and forth on the road and then both parties stopped for a fight with the Thai unfortunately hitting his head on the ground during the fight. Let's hope he can recover. 

 

2 young, aggressive guys driving a 8 million Baht car in Samui, I doubt they are making that kind of money selling 80 Baht beers in some dive bar, I wouldn't be surprised if they are involved in something that causes them just as much trouble as the assault. It's going to cost them a lot either way.

I do hope the Thai man recovers after what seems to have been a sucker cowardly attack, lets hope they aren't able to pay their way out of this but will we ever find out

That number plate comes for free from the dealer,it is a temporary plate

with the 9999 number.

Buying a permanent plate with this number will cost a lot!

Still, whatever the circumstances, it simply isn't worth brawling in the streets, if it can be avoided.  Even if you win, the other guy can end up dead or crippled from hitting the ground.
