Sure it will differ from industry to industry... i know a few guys in the office block here who work on the tech side of online companies and some of their senior guys (IT Geeks) are on up to 800K basic.

Apart from C-Suite level, I've never heard or seen any IT job in Thiland that pays 800k THB per month (and I've been in recruitment for over 10 years in Bangkok). I'm not saying it's not possible but he would have to be some sort of next level genius or very, very specialist to constitute that kind of money. It's more likely he is just exagerating.

The majority of Thai workers are impoverished laborers from the north and north east, they earn around 10 - 12000 baht a month with overtime!

The ladies from the north-east who choose to work in Bangkok / Pattaya seems to be earning 500-1000 per day (with overtime occasionally)

Dunno also 7-11 workers and intern nurses are on peanut wages so I don't know where your going with bringing the law into the Thai work situation, if my Mrs don't get any customers the 2 that work with her only get food no money, they understand that.

That's a pathetic approach to employing people and you should be ashamed to not pay workers that come to work. It's your problem to solve if you have no customers not the employee's. Dirt bag move.

I believe he does coding for one of the global online booking platforms. No idea of that could he true. I know how much he is paid from another source as well.. a financial advisor. He is just not the type to lie. Does not matter anyway.

OP, what are your definitions of lower middle and upper class ?? Home ownership, mortgage, big screen TV ???

The regional thing seems a bit vague as well, a bank manager, teacher, gov employee would get the same amount no matter what their location.

I seriously doubt that the government and private companies pay the same salaries regardless of where they live or what the cost of living is in the area.  It does not work that way in the U.S.

The only hourly rate I know of for sure in our massage person who charges TB200/hour and comes to our home.

Thai spouse and siblings (most are settled in Bangkok) earn between 150,000-350,000THB per month.

Their friends from school, university and work would presumably earn around the same, but I (or we) have never asked or really wondered.

Jacked up numbers  like the Thais do.  ????

Labor officer, lifetime of experience, 35000/month. Is Thai university job.

Once there was a demand for 4 jobs in it and there were about 2000 applications.

Pharmacist 60000/month, I was flabbergasted, but however mentioned.

Herbal pharmacist 20000/month. But she seems to do also side jobs giving her a real good

income. Photographing, like graduations, weddings, commercial.

Have seen some proof of it and was really flabbergasted. Amazing amounts for those jobs.

As long as corona isnt there, she can do better with photography.

However red this, google on:  boston university creating corona.

They CREATED a new one. Very successful in killing. Well done boys, but they say they are careful with it.:cheesy:

You are funny and have no idea how Thailand works,  excuse the pun.

I know exactly how Thailand works. I have a family here, farm, employ laborers so I have both a working knowledge of how people are treated, their living conditions and what's right and wrong in the way people are treated here.

I also know just because others take advantage of people that have little to no choices, that it's still not appropriate or correct. You can justify it any way you want so you can sleep at night but it's still wrong and you should be ashamed.  You wouldnt work for anyone under those conditions or treated like that, but it's OK to treat others that way. No moral compress comes to mind

If you know how Thailand works then you would understand the nature and way people are paid, especially migrant workers.  There is nothing more important to a company or a person than making and saving money by paying less than what you believe folks should be getting.  Sorry to burst your bubble but your one of only a few who treat their workers with respect and care and we are a very minor amount of employers..  I have employed my Housekeeper now for 3 years and prior to working for me she never was employed longer than 3 or 4 months as the employers treated her like feces..

I'm a little lost in you comments.

I have no bubble to burst and on one hand you say something positive then reverse it with an opposite comment.

I never said everyone should be doing what I do or that I'm in the majority. What I said is that's a scumbag approach having resturant workers spend their shift at work and if no one comes then you don't pay them. As a business owner that's their problem as a cost of doing business.

MY point being if you bring a worker to a restaurant and they  stay all day and when no customers come you get No pay. Thats full on BS regardless if others so the same.

They spent there day their ready to work. If this was a construction job and the staff stood around, and did nothing or it was raining and they  couldnt come to the job site then yeah no work no pay. But that's not what was said.

I pay and treat my workers with dignity and fairly as everyone should because they are people not animals or property. If they work they get paid, if I can't sell my product that's my problem not theirs.

I also agree that many employers will take a profit over treating someone properly especially if they are migrants. So yeah that aproach is a scumbag act and until more people stop abusing workers here they wont progress

At this point there no use discussing this any further some people do right and some people do don't under the guise of doing what's others for a better profit so that justifies taking advantage of others. Those action define character and its good to see where others fall on the moral compress of life

Some of my real life experiences:

* Government worker in Lampang with bachelor degree, 20 years experience: under 15K per month.
* Government officer in Chiang Mai with 20 years experience, bachelor degree and some responsibilities, around 45K per month
* Person working from home as a translator for oversea clients, around 150K per month
* Owner of tourist van company in Northern Thailand, around 300-400K per month during Thaksin, and much lower now based on the rant I heard a few years ago.
* Random girl with 5 foreign "boyfriends", around 100K per month plus benefits and occasional side jobs.

350000 a month   55555555,   what a joke.

A few CEOs of very major industries might earn such amounts but very very few. I've worked with 2. I won't reveal their names / companies but here's some hints:

- Perhaps group head of national oil, gas and more.....

- Perhaps group head national cement and building materials and allied industries, massive operations/company names in Thailand and very very big and highly successful branches abroad.....

And of course enormous responsibilities and enormous challenges.....

OP

Average incomes, for any country are a poor indication of life situations anywhere.

"In what range do most peoples incomes lie?" is a more useful question.

Divide income in Thailand into tiers and you will see that most people in Thailand spend a higher % of their incomes on neccesities, and have relatively less disposable income, than do their counterparts in the West.

To paraphrase J M Keynes:

"Life is ****, and deeper ****, for a proportionately greater % of Thais in Thailand than it is for Westerners at home in the West"

Had you really not worked that out?

Official statistics are highly dubious, around 40% of Thais work in the informal economy - government has no idea how much they earn, My wife runs a village shop and micro laundrette, she 'takes' about 3-4,000 a day with a markup of 20%, so theoretically makes 500-600 baht a day - BUT that is gross - if you allow for wastage (food goes bad), utility bills and days when she cannot work a whole day, average is more like 300-400 baht. And hers is one of the largest shops in the village.

I can't believe what you wrote as accurate as rubber farming is labor entensive, not to mention fertilizing, watering, gas for equipment etc compared to the extremely low price of raw rubber brings, it's almost impossible to live on no money for a decade or even a year. Yeah local produce is cheap but that's a small portion of life so unless they live in a shack or they have other income I say not possible. My family has a rubber farm and I know the cost to maintain it and it isn't as you describe.

Wife rubber farm has 50/50 deal father in law go only collect money these days! My wife dont want he anymore live in mountain and do all coz hes geting old. When he handle everything , that was me who bring chemical and other stuff there. Nowdays dealer even come to pick up rubber from mountain so dont need to carry that smelly sht no place. Father in law only go there when dealer go to buy rubber.

And there's income tax to pay to.

How are you post on the message?

Telepathy?

Perhaps you could do without it but the majority of people would be lost without it.

Of course not telepathy.

But, I'm here in my house with family. If I were on my own in the farm, I could live on nothing. As I said earlier, I would treat myself to a meal from one of those mobile restaurants and enjoy eating fruit and veg.

And I suggest MR Mr, that if the conflict in eastern Europe escalates, we might all have to learn to do without technology.

But back to the OP for a jiff. Had some tree trimming done last week. Paid 1500 baht for three guys to do the tolling. Took them one day.

Imagine what that would cost in California!

Indeed. Even in England, in the London area, wouldn't get much change out of 500 squids.

BKK; probably 3k for all three.

There are a lot of Thais doing deliveries now-a-days. The people that service our area do around 50 parcels a day. The Mrs asked one lady how much she got. Just 12 baht a delivery from her m/c sidecar. I always tip between 15 and 30 baht. But without the tips it's not really an earner. She said the Thais don't tip much. She has to pay for benzine too.
