Any dog can be vicious and the most loving dog can go from Fido to Cerberus is a split second in the right circumstances. The owner should be competent to train and socialise their dog starting at a couple of months old. The American Pit Bull was known as the Nanny Dog because of its loving, loyal, caring and "Protective" nature. Any dog that bites and draws blood should be immediately put down and its that simple. Note I am a dog lover, I have owned trained and worked my dogs to a high standard yet my dogs were always on the lead except when working.

They are nice dogs if they have their balls removed if they're male, can't comment on the bitches. A major problem I witness on a daily basis (the farm family has one) is they don't know their own strength and heft and are highly excitable, often bumping heavily into whatever is in the way. Often injuring themselves during these storm trooping thuds inside and outside, oh yeah and this one stinks from the exercise... But hey, he's golden and looks like a pig, so he's lucky lucky and ain't going nowhere.

And the key words are when raised correctly. Unfortunately, it seems a majority of them are not and that makes them dangerous and that's why the breed should be "discontinued".

Look at the amazing nanny skills of the dog. Such good-natured and stable creatures.

Pit Bulls,

Able to use lethal force, at whim, without warning.

When such dogs are allowed to roam free, it is tantamount to someone walking in a war zone, without any knowledge of being in such a danger zone.

 

Non-trainable dogs, even of no interest for police, totally useless to them, must be a reason for that...

The last tragedy I read about, is a family who lost their two children, in a sudden attack of their two beloved Pit Bulls, which had been part of the family for 8 years.

Many countries demand by law that certain breeds of dog wear a muzzle .

No muzzle used then  the dog can be impounded .

The long lead used by the dog owner is not a wise choice.

So you are right, do not kill all Cocker Spaniel puppies, only all Pit Bulls.

Happened to me a month ago when I was up on our farm, on our land, by a local unchained neighbour's dog. I wonder why that didn't make the news? I guess it wasn't a bull breed so it wouldn't have got all the pearl clutchers up in arms. 

Did the owner of the dog which bit you have trouble restringing the dog to prevent a follow up attack ????

Sounds like a lot of time, effort and cost involved in making a pit-bull a little safer but still a danger.  Something most owners are unlikely to do.

No, a comment from a Pit Bull owner for the last 20 years ++, that's what my comment is based on. I don't comment on things i know nothing about, a rule of thumb perhaps others could follow.....maybe yourself included.

 

Normally when people meet normal well trained Pit Bulls their opinion of the breed is instantly changed due to their nature, maybe you'd like to come by and meet mine, doubt they'd like you tho...
