Raids in the resort town of Pattaya found threads linking several suspected Chinese criminals through a web of Thai frontmen to authorities at the very top of government

Is there anybody out there that is surprised by this statement ?

Similar raids in the resort town of Pattaya also found threads linking several suspected Chinese criminals through a web of Thai frontmen to authorities who had apparently not seen these anything-goes nightlife venues despite them drawing thousands of guests each night.

Paid to look the other way....

The triads didn't just come this year they have been here a long long time.

Who you think run the Golden Triangle area,  there are roots dating back decades to the Hakka from southern China.

Reported raids in 32 plus provinces did that happen overnight? These raids are happening not surprising due to their love for their country because former MP Massage king who knows a thing or two about corruptions and illegal businesses. He sees the Thai grip start to slip losing their country so he cry foul the only reason for the raids this goes so deep leaders of this country care about one thing the question is it too late????

Triads started coming in late 19th century. By the 1920s there were large rival triad gangs involved in a range of crime including kidnapping. Their descendants are now gangster politicians who are starting to wake up to the threat to their turf from slick new arrivals.

Correct,  Triads there are like a million of them consist of hundred of groups. The largest is the CCP themselves they M. O.  aren't like your general mafia going around killing themselves off like we see on the tube,  although many groups they keep to themselves it is all about not being seen reason in the 60-7O,  the American style violent upstart never got their footing. Although large Triads are splinter but like most the script is the same when you get so big it is hard to contain the wealth. Being human it starts to become power, ego, the reason for the downfall is always the same!

Stupidity and arrogance like always once the focus is off they will slowly go underground slowly they will again entrench themselves more and more into the government.  The outcry from Chuwit will disappear he has a price when he gets it outside of Thailand he would already be swimming with the fishes as they say.

Quality in Thailand equates to rich....and these foreigners are rich..so Thailand should be celebrating their marketing success in attracting so many.

We have obviously been taking lessons from the Capitalist West!

This is just more evidence to feed my belief that the Chinese are in the process of slowly taking over Thailand. It is slow. It is subtle. It is real. The officials at the top are and will profit from this.

I disagree, I doubt it is even possible. Why? Thai's are xenophobic to the n'th degree, even when it comes to the Chinese this is true, although far less so than with farangs. There is a trade off between that xenophobia and getting rich, they love the money but ultimately their patriotism will win and any outsider will be the looser.  All this will settle down before too long and will be forgotten by most people, as soon as balance and equilibrium is restored. Then it will be back to the old game of finding ways to persecute farangs, subtly of course, death by a thousand cuts.

This likely has very little to do with fighting crime, but rather being disenfranchised, by not getting a piece of the action. So, this is about incorporating the Chinese gangsters and the triads into the RTP mafia.

Anyone believing anything to the contrary has either not been here long enough, or is very naive.

You'll be reminded that a very integral and important part of any real economy anywhere are the black/underground/alternative sectors....which might even be more valued than the surface and fabricated variety.

The top Chinese gangster in Thailand "HuTao", is married to a police colonel, who is the daughter of a former deputy PM.

Those are serious connections and I would be surprised if he actually spends a single night behind bars.

Rumor has it that he was only arrested because of pressure from the Chinese government who would like the Thais to clean up some of this mess for them.

bags of Ketamine at the den behind car wash?

doesn't sound like some rich ppl hangout, rather tuk-tuk & motosye cage.

When rich folks have fun (in LOS) they simply hire partymaker who arranges huge suite, penthouse, girls/boys/LB, drugs (real one), booze and proper security. And yes, police knows about it. Party goes for days, lots of fun! Its very private though.

Ketamine is for pets.

What I am, personally, more interested in, when and to what extend will the next immigration crackdown happen, following these news, on "foreigners who stay too long, or come too often to Thailand"...

Why should you be personally interested in something that has nothing to do with you? Unless you maybe have something to hide yourself ????

Still first grade pupils...need to learn from UK. London is "murderer and thief central", the gathering place of oligarchs, present and ousted dictators and so on. Everyone who managed to steal large amounts of money from their own country is welcomed there to invest in property, football clubs and more.

And even those rumors are likely false. Who wants to bet Xi gets a piece of the triad action? So many false flags.

Exactly. Chinese, rich, creating 'extra value' (not last for certain government employees)... Probably, 9 out of 10 Thais will still favour such 'tourists' over "those cheap Charlie backpackers".

Sorry you think 90% of the population prefer Chinese (criminals?) visiting Thailand over backpackers. I would find that figure very hard to believe.  What is the source for the number  - or did you make it up?

I am happy about the mention of foreign ownership of land being scrapped.  Like many other parts of the world, predominantly Chinese easily outbid others in the property market and drive up local prices, forcing local citizens out and acquiring premium properties in prime locations.

We then end up with gentrification full of foreigners forcing their own cultural and language preferences and disinterested in local ones.

Having whole enclaves full of criminal scum, where dirty money has funded their lifestyles, who look down on local Thais, who get nothing from it.  It's a slap and a spit in the face for regular working class Thai people.  The regular Thais get more money from the lower income tourists (not talking about Chinese on closed-loop coach tours) and expats who spend into the local economy daily and interact with Thai people.

Thailand is still a fairly homogeneous race, which is what attracts most people here. I wish it stayed like this.

After a few million Chinese bit the dust from Covid next year and the lockdowns stop for good. It will back to business as usual.  Thailand is to predictable at this point.

If going to come to Thailand best to enjoy it now.  Then vacate to more pleasurable destinations.

So now you are discovering the real reason the Chinese are in Thailand. Wakey wakey Thailand, the Chinese have an agenda and its not what you think. Dont let the corrupt Thai officials try and make you believe otherwise as the Chinese have an even bigger appetite for a quick buck than Thais do and thats saying something !!
