New York (CNN) China will drop quarantine requirements for all passengers arriving from outside of the country’s borders starting on January 8, 2023, its top health authority announced Monday.

The country will also scrap all other restrictive Covid measures for travelers, including quarantines for positive patients and contact tracing.

Authorities said the new policy is part of a new way China plans to manage Covid. China downgraded Covid management to a less-strict “Class B disease,” in the same category as less-severe diseases, such as Dengue fever. China will also call Covid an “infection” instead of “pneumonia.” The change is “more in line with the current characteristics and danger level of this disease,” the National Health Commission said in a statement.

The surge in deaths have now been re-categorized as non severe and everyone is very happy with the management of this minor ailment.

An ingrown toenail is "a minor ailment", because almost nobody in the history of mankind ever died from one. Covid on the other hand has killed nearly 7 million. As for everyone now being "very happy", I suspect the families of those who have died are not.

Not quite opening up yet.

"The sale of outbound group and package travel (from a minimum of a flight + hotel package) was banned by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism  from 27 January, 2020, and has not resumed. The ban was last reiterated on 16 November 2022. Outbound travel by individuals for non-essential reasons is strongly discouraged".

When will they unleash their affected masses on the world again? ????

I can see the future now, Chinese tourist coming to Thailand, the rate of the infection or virus in Thailand will rise, but the government will not give out the numbers TIT

Reporting of infections has already been lifted. But interestingly, people want all covid restrictions lifted but also want the number of cases to be reported, how does that work!

Nope, only inbound restrictions lifted, outbound travel restrictions remain.

The same tactic was wildly successful for China in early 2020.

WWIII continued!

But will they return the confiscated passports to their comrades or is this just a move to bring in foreign money?

When that happens and the infected masses do arrive here, I wonder what the "trivial disease/minor ailment" posters will have to say, will it be just nothing then?

Seems not yet, but inward bound treated and sickness free tourists are welcome to help the economy.

Actually, if you look at photos of public places in Beijing, you'll see that almost no one is out. Now the Chinese people are voluntarily restricting their own movements without the overkill measures previously imposed by the government. I suspect it will be a while before most Chinese travel overseas. The small number who are currently leaving are probably those who plan to stay outside of the country until they can get mRNA vaccinations and until the  pandemic subsides.

The questions is for how much longer? Not looking forward to the Chinese mass invasion of Pattaya. The Russian invasion (of LOS) has already driven hotel rates up, and filled many of the budget hotels.

If I remember correctly a couple days ago an article said a town outside of Shanghai had 1 million Covid cases a day. That should keep most people from going there and hopefully no outbound flights..
