What do you think about wearing Ukrainian colors around Russians in Thailand?

Featured Replies

I recently searched Lazada for Ukraine and found there were many tasteful and some not so tasteful t-shirts displaying the proud colors of the Ukrainian flag  etc.

That got me wondering.

What do you think about wearing such shirts in places in Thailand where there are now a lot of Russians?

Of course Russians here are not a monolith and they have a range of opinions on the war, their dictator, and Ukraine.

But is there any value in wearing such shirts or is it only virtue signaling or even potentially provoking a violent response?

I see it both ways.

The Russians won't see that in Russia so it's kind of a way modeling dissent.

Would you do it?

Comments are welcome.

Wearing such in the crowd at a major football match (i.e. WC final) fair enough), wearing such in Thailand, it looks like you’re a Karen hunting for a conflict.

The problem is not the Russians, is with their leader, Mr. Putler.

And if Putin is a dictator then Biden is a terrorist.  Time to stop reflexively saluting every war that comes along.  We're so plainly in the wrong on this one it's embarrassing.

Find me a t-shirt that ably communicates the cruelty of what both Russian and Ukrainian men are going through by being made to fight this stupid war and I'll wear it.

I don't wear anything that might provoke an angry response (or sucker punch).....

Neutral is probably a safer place to be ..... For sure if in an area where there's liquor flowing....

Especially if there's as many wanna be Spetsnaz walking around as there are SAS wanna be types....

How can you tell the difference by a casual look between a Russian and a Ukrainian person?

..i have no idea as i think they look about the same but do not know?  Are there also some Ukrainians here in Thailand? Again i have no idea which is why i ask.

We had the Australian Open tennis recently in Melbourne and some Russians got into strife for wearing the flag. Do Russians in Thailand you see wear the colors of their flag. If not or rare then best to leave it there. If they do then go for it.

You can't usually tell the difference between Russians although there are clues indicating family tourists vs  dodger refugees.

Relative to Russians there are very few Ukrainians here now

The OPs question was specifically about wearing Ukrainian colours in Thailand.

If someone wants to do this they should be absolutely free to do so, without the need to think what someone else thinks about it, or being physically assaulted and, absolutely without being accused of virtue signalling. That phrase is becoming as overused as the word "woke".

If a Russian male of fighting age has a problem with it then why are they in Thailand in the first place? If it is because they don't agree with the war then why would they have a problem with the Ukrainian colours? If it is because they hate Ukraine then why are they here and not back home volunteering?

If Thais have a known issue with people wearing a certain flag then fair enough, be sympathetic to the views of the citizens of the host nation. This is not Russia.

Very American or extended Anglophone.

Reflective of their backward and disconnected character.

When Putin stole Crimea in 2014 I saw many obnoxious Russians wearing fascistic Putin shirts. Over the years very  common to see Russian nationalist attire but I think rarer now as they know they're a parish nation now.

As foreigners we cannot legally protest here but we sure as hell can wear any flag colors that we want!

Ironically most people wearing American colors abroad are not Americans.

Why on Earth would you? You bought into the narrative? Ukrain's dust.

I very much support Ukraine and very much oppose fascist Putin.

I do have a family connection there but that's not the reason.

The topic here is probably a better fit for expats that actually support Ukraine's efforts to defend their sovereign nation.

Putin is a dictator. Fact.

Ukrainians are defending their homeland from an invading and occupying force..

Very different to why Russian soldiers are there.

Ukrainian colors are also Swedish colors, so I would mind wearing them anywhere. Although I think it would definitely look stupid wearing blue trousers and yellow t-shirt, or the other way around. Black is my favorite (lack) of color.

To the title of thread ... why would you, unless you're simply a sh!t stirrer.

Would a Jew go downtown Berlin in WW2 with a Star of David, or some neo Nazi go see the sights in Israel today with a Nazi swastika t-shirt.

Som naa na if you do ????

I certainly wouldn't wear my Grand Wizard attire in Claiborne County, Mississippi ????

The shirts are usually more obvious such as showing the shape of Ukraine or having the word.

I get your point and think Iraq was probably the biggest American foreign mistake in history yet I totally reject that they are equivalents.
