I believe that the first Nationaliity that should be offered Refugee Status are the Ukranians.  They did not initiate the War and are fighting hard for their Sovereinty against the Russian Invaders.  Thailand has sadly go it wrong again!

If, by westerner, you mean European, I really find it hard to understand any European supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On what grounds? It was patently unnecessary. Putin's pathetic excuse that he had no alternative ("they made me do it") is unworthy of a world leader, to say the least. And the result? Do you see any damage to Russian territory? Nothing! NOTHING! How dare people say Ukraine started this war, or deserved it in any way? Have we lost all morality? Twisted, twisted, twisted.

Well, they didn't invade Poland like Russia and Germany did. Sure, they were reluctant to commit to a war 3,000 miles away, but without them eventually joining the Allies, we would never have defeated the Axis powers. They were, and have been ever since, our allies. 

 

People of a certain age who never witnessed Soviet Russia have no idea what it represented. If you'd prefer a Russian government, go there. I don't see a queue to get into the place. Nobody's crossing borders illegally to get in. But millions are queuing to get out.

 

And now we have the rest of the original article. A deal with Thailand to round up supposed "traitors" and deport them back to Russia. There you have it. Naturally this would be illegal from most other countries as they will face appalling state persecution if returned.

Thailand is not a good country for refugees, there is no welfare system to be abused. I think the Myanmar refugees close to their border are having pretty hard times here. Many of the world refugees want to end up in a country like Germany.

Prior to covid the Russians were the largest permanently living nationality in Samui. Many seem to work online or have a businesses here. There are many more now, some seem to be tourists, but quite a few are settling for longer time, I've seen quite a few red plated cars recently. Some seem to be YouTubers trying to make money with movies with not much regard to other people's privacy, the next time a Russian is flying a drone in my face I'm going to call the police.

They are not refugees most of them have plenty of money the true reason is that they are all, cowards running away from there motherland because they don’t want to be called up into the military if they think they are safe they are fooling themselves when they return Putins henchmen will be there waiting for them life won’t be worth living meanwhile the Thai government will make millions in visa charges v and that’s the only reason for not shipping them back home . What I am seeing on my island is Russians renting properties and then subletting them for ridiculous prices . They are working discreetly with no work permits one guy was caught last week on a 188 day overstay and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are 100s more on overstay with little being done about it  ☹️
