Toilet Paper Versus The Bum-Gun; Many Expats Say They Know The Answer

Sounds rather drastic, all you should need is a T-piece connector on the inlet water pipe.

that is the problem that the water supply from the wall comes into the cistern not leaving any way to connect to it unless to drill a hole into the cistern and connect the bum washer hose.

I know it sounds ridiculous. Once when I was staying at a hotel (no names) in Surin, the bum gun was useless. I went to a local DIY shop and bought a new gun and fitted it in the hotel bathroom and it

Doesn’t work for me. I can spray forever and still have evidence in my underwear at the end of the day. I suspect my history of hemorrhoids contributes to that problem.

After 25 years in the USA my wife has no use for them either. They’ve been removed from all but one of our four bathrooms in Thailand. Visitors have to use the guest house bathroom if they prefer that. Bathrooms stay clean when nobody can spray dirty water around.

To do a proper job, you need to use your other hand to scrub.  Not sure why this isn't mentioned in the OP.

No scrubbing means you still need to use toilet paper to not only dry your butt, but get the last remnants of stool out of your anus.

It seems weird to me that there might be people wandering around thinking you just spray and then let the environment do the rest.  They must be thinking they have a superiorly clean anus, while in reality it is probably dirtier than if they used just paper.

Excellent!

In Finland we have the bum-gun in (almost) every WC.

Only it's done cheaper: Connected to the same water pipe that goes to the water tap of hand basin. You have to open the water tap first. So we built the toilet bowl and hand basin close to each other.

Otherwise it's similar.

it's very unhealthy, coli bacterias going everywhere, specially for women is not a good practice, the best solution is toilet paper plus bidet obviously using soap as well.

Are you sure ? The research is somewhat mixed but some medical experts say toilet paper is worse for spreading bacteria around the anal and perianal areas.

In the article below, New York rectal surgeon Evan Goldstein argues for the use of water in preference to toilet paper.

Bidets are healthier than toilet paper according to a rectal surgeon

As he points out:

wiping with toilet paper essentially smears your fecal matter around without actually cleaning the area. The way Goldstein put it, it's like stepping on dog poop and only wiping it off with paper rather than washing it off your shoe first.

Now I know why some don’t eat with their left hand.

they are not allowed in the west because of the risk of back flow into the water system - in most countries water is safe to drink from the tap - not so in Thailand

I am not sure what the real risk is in terms of backflow - I am sure it is very small to zero - a non return valve would solve the issue anyway

The UK would require a "double-check valve" which is essentially two non-return valves in one housing.

Bum guns ......way to go !

Unless;

I checked into a rural hotel once where the water pressure was unbelievable. Must have been the fire department that installed it. In all innocence I went to use it for the first time and nearly blew my teeth out ! Super ouch.

I liked the bum gun at first but it doesn't come close to wet wipes.

do you wear a mask and rubber gloves - dear oh dear

have you ever gone outside ?

do you know what the most germ ridden things are in your home or everywhere for that matter - do some research, BTW the keyboard you are typing on very likely has more bacteria than anything in your bathroom

your foreplay must be a real adventure lol

I can't imagine ................... yes manually rubbing your hemorrhoids constantly with bogroll is going to improve things, ever thought of dealing with the real problem - your ###  hemorrhoids

I first discovered the bucket and pail over 40 years ago on my first trip to Thailand and never used toilet paper in my home or Thailand since. The bum gun is a relatively newer invention.

They were here then especially here in Thailand. Lower end places to stay had the bucket and dripper, and you still find them up country often.

As he points out:

Surely, in the use of the toilet spray, the anus is cleaner than if just paper was used, but the surrounding areas are dirtier?  When using paper alone, generally no stool is spread anywhere other than the anus, but in using the spray, stool is necessarily sprayed wherever the water goes.

From the OP article:

"........shoot from the back....."

I shoot from the front and the water is sprayed toward the back. How about you, do you spray from the back or the front?

Bum guns rule.

Klingons be gone.

Same as in the USA. My friends were posting pictures of empty shelves in the stores. I replied back with pics of pallets stacked high in Makro.

I did with surgery some 35 years ago. I’d have to post a photo for you to understand the full story.

I stayed in a hotel once where they had one of those super duper japanese toilets. The control panel for the built in auto bum gun was like something off a spaceship; pressure, temp, pulse, angle etc.

All it needed was an "Engage" button.

What, no 'tug' button?

As opposed to smaring the coli bacteria around your ring with a piece of paper.....and then not washing your hands?

My daughter works in aged homecare, not sure how much she charges old men for a colostomy though.

Always check pressure is not set to Jet Washer though, how people use that I don't know

We only buy toilet paper for show.......

Most expensive imported brand please, textured and imprinted with little butterflies and perhaps even a couple of muted colours.

' aim and fire ' ... how do you aim at something you can't see ?

One would have to be extremely uncoordinated to be splashing bacteria around, although I suppose it is possible with jumbo-sized backsides.
