Popular Post 1FinickyOne Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 why would you care? I believe in a free world where people can eat the rice of their choosing - or not... Any rice, any time... that's the world I want to live in... 1 1 4 2
Popular Post scubascuba3 Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 Buy any rice you like in shops, 99% of restaurants only sell the cheapest white rice, why? because it's the cheapest, if their price went up, customers would go elsewhere 5
Popular Post Seth1a2a Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 4 hours ago, parafareno said: why the thailand just dont replace basmati with jasmin rice...? Parafareno, if English is not your first language please use a translator to read this post. Thais love their jasmine rice. I like it too In this relationship the reason for the breakup is you and not the rice. The two types of rice you mentioned (Basmati and Jasmine) have different characteristics . Jasmine rice is naturally sticky. It's like saying you hate sugar because it tastes too sweet or why can't my poodle be more like my Rottweiler. The solution is to cook the different rice in a different way. You can lookup a few recipes on-line for how to cook jasmine rice to make it less sticky and more fluffy . You have a few options to try before you give up and throw the bag of rice into a trash bin. Sample: Unlike basmati rice, which should be soaked, jasmine rice should never be soaked since it is already naturally soft. In Southeast Asia jasmine rice is traditionally steamed, but nowadays it's usually made in a rice cooker and served plain, without oil or salt. Other recipes stress rinsing it more but using less water while cooking . 4 1 1

Popular Post EVENKEEL Posted April 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2023 Jasmine rice is excellent. Wash it a few times, good to go. Can't eat potatoes every night or morning. 4
Popular Post Crossy Posted April 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2023 I don't like basmati rice, so I don't buy it, I suggest our OP does the same with jasmine rice. Easy. Many moons ago, I was working on a project in Malaysia. We had a British software engineer visit on a fairly long-term basis, let's call her Sarah (because that was her name). She was on a bit of a health kick and couldn't find suitable brown rice in the two aisles of rice in the supermarket. Asking about it in the office she was directed to the local animal feed outlet. I never did find out if she actually bought any. 2 1 3 "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
Popular Post JackGats Posted April 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2023 Why do they call it "Jasmin" anyway? I was expecting flavoured rice, much like basmati rice, but it's only plain boring white rice. 2 1 1 1

KhunLA Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Not a rice fan myself, rarely eat, but the Hom Mali/Jasmine rice is much better, than the rest of the (unseasoned) rice offered here. Smells and tastes much better, if you eat rice. Take a plain potato over plain rice any day. Along with a bit of 'fusion', pasta over rice, in most other dishes where rice is served. 1 1
Popular Post daveAustin Posted April 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2023 Well that’s five minutes I won’t get back. Stroll on. ???? 1 1 1
recom273 Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 @parafareno I’m with you. I can’t stand the texture and the flavour any longer. I must say, if you can get it from farm and mill it yourself (not yourself but at a local mill) then it does have a lot better flavour. If I’m out and about I would prefer some cheaper rice that has a nuttier flavour. At home I prefer to eat increasingly more bread, pasta, red rice and French fries (Chinese potatoes are also a bit disappointing). I also along with loss of love for Jasmine rice, I cook a lot more indian or Chinese food - Thai food doesn’t seem to have much depth, just ingredients tossed in a pan with fish sauce / oyster sauce. It’s all a bit lazy and one note. Each to their own, just sayin’ 1

bunnydrops Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 The stickiness has lot has to do with the age of the rice. We grow rice, but rarely eat the first year crop. The second year is still soft but not sticky. 2
