How old is she? and is she good looking? :whistling:

55555.....was thinking the same.  If she's a 20 year old hottie, I'm sure many here would offer to help in the most personal way.

Other option do what most people do start a Gofundme ????

Begging for food, but spending money for weed.

But would she not have to get to BKK US embassy or do they have a consulate in Krabi ?

She would need to contact the embassy and the they would give her instructions on the process.

Why must she have one?

This is a bs story and reeks of fraud. No way she can't withdraw funds transferred to her.

To withdraw money would require and current ATM card or a valid passport, maybe she has neither.

Maybe a few of us on here could chip in and help this woman?

she can wait till she get deported...she will stay in a cell for a while then get a free ticket home....problem solved....

You think?   Who provides "the free ticket home", the Thai government sure doesn't.

Yes, depends how it was transferred but yes she would need ID to withdraw it or an atm or credit, debit card. It could have been via bank, western union or another service. Or she could have already pulled it and used it up or it was never sent.

Why would you have someone transfer money if you have no way to access it? The whole story smells of bs.

If the US Embassy actually loans an American Citizen money a notation is made on the passport.  This prevents the person from making an international trip until the loan is paid off.

I cannot verify this, it was told to me by someone who claimed it happened to him long ago:  if the US Embassy repatriates a citizen they do so with a first-class ticket, and then expect to be reimbursed.

"...if the US Embassy repatriates a citizen they do so with a first-class ticket..."

Not quite right, the US actually provides a private jet...and a stretch limo to the airport.

The journalist writing the article could have spoken to her and question the strange circumstances but I guess that's too much work.

Well. as the loadies say, "Weed will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no weed."

Not if you're entering the country legally.

So I guess the new way to write a story is just to print here say, and not do any investigative work, do not do any fact checking, don't look into the details at all, just to translate what somebody else said. I guess that is journalism in 2023.

One wonders why she can't get to the funds.

One wonders why she can't go to the US Embassy and ask for help, from what I understand the US Embassy does have a program where they will lend American citizens the money to get home and they have to pay it back, so what's going on here?

I think there's a lot more than meets the eye, the story does not sound 100%, yes tourists do go broke while they're overseas, but there are too many loose ends here.

Definitely... These stories (and many on modern media) are simply a regurgitation without any fact checking or investigation.

With a lack of cohesion, an absence facts, a wealth of conflicting information such stories are a lightening rod for a number of halfwitted posters on this forum to completely buy into what is written as fact and cast their judgment without any deeper thought.

Shouldn’t we instead be flaming the the actual author for regurgitating such a flawed article in the first place ???

The most basic of questions to be asked here is "why can’t the lady in question receive that $10,000 sent by her sister ?”.... the journalist (term used extremely loosely) couldn’t even be bothered to find out about that.

Why ??... because its utterly lazy reporting and no-one cares about the facts anymore... its easier to cast judgment when the story is incomplete and plays into the hands of those with ’trigger finger sanctimony’....:whistling:

Jail her for what? Please elaborate on your obviously well-thought-out solution.

It's highly unlikely she has a work permit for busking, so there's that for starters.

It's also possible she's on overstay, so there's another potential option.

I'm not saying that I agree with the statement that she should be jailed, but there's almost certainly grounds on which it could be actioned.

I hear you - you're in the city.....Waay down in South Thai, I was interested to be told that they have variations on what they refer to the services provided - short game, long game . Whatever turns their crank is fine with me. but you do know, officially, there's no prostitution in Thailand? ????

I guess that comes from shooting your bolt..:)

I think bankruptcy is a legal state that has to be ruled on by a court of law. Having no money is vagrancy????

Maybe she can get herself deported for being unable to support herself financially and what about her return flight she must have had one to enter

Many times over the years I entered Thailand with no outward ticket booked. Although one time I printed out and kept an 'edited' ticket/flight details, just in case.

Wow, a lot of this is going around.  I just got an email from another poor young lady in Nigeria who lost her suitcase and needs my help getting her back home too.
