Wichit, Phuket – An Australian driver is facing two legal charges after a road rage incident in which he destroyed a minivan’s side mirror in Wichit, Mueang Phuket.

The minivan driver Mr. Monnapan told police the sedan driven by a foreigner immediately swerved in front of his minivan and suddenly braked. The minivan driven by Mr. Monnapan almost collided with the sedan.

After that the minivan and the sedan stopped at a red light. Monnapan got out of his vehicle and walked to the sedan to ask the driver why he drove so carelessly but the sedan driver allegedly tried to crash into him.

Monnapan got back into his minivan and drove when the light turned green. The two drivers, however, continued to harass each other with Monnapan honking his horn continuously and then both vehicles stopped on the road side before the foreigner hit and smashed the minivan’s side mirror and then fled.

... because, as we know, mini-van drivers have the reputation of being the most respectful vehicle drivers on Thailand’s roads... hmmm....

Of course, perhaps this was a one off whereby the mini-van driver was a measure of perfect driving and calm restraint...  its possible, no ????

I managed to find the transcript:

"Excuse me kind sir. It seems that your driving almost caused an accident. No biggy, I just walked over to check everything is ok and find out why you braked so suddenly"?

May be the minivan driver was lucky, had the other vehicle he offended been driven by a rich local he may have shot

Perhaps the heading in the news article should be changed to, 3 middle eastern men with Australian Passports.....bla......bla......bla, lucky the minivan driver wasn't in Oz, as these 3 would have taken to him like a pack of wolves as they do.

Come to think of it, they almost have the same Thai mentality, when it comes to the pack of wolves thing.

Minibus driver was probably driving recklessly as they do and the other driver got mad with him and took revenge

I trust the punishment gives him cause for 'reflection'...

"Australian Man Faces Several Legal Charges After Road Rage Incident in Phuket"

Should read, from the article:

'The Australian man is facing two charges which are damaging other people’s property and threatening others, after road rage incident in Phuket' ?

I tend to agree with you, but I guess its who the police believe?

Tough to understand why police is handling a case like this as if it was murder?

Especially in a he/she said case in which a mirror was broken. Charges being filed and case being forwarded to Prosecutor which is unusual I suspect police threw out a payment amount that the Aussie wouldn't pay!

What a total waste of time!

Right it seems it was 2 guys having an argument and a side mirror was damaged? Surely if the Australian offers to pay for a new one, it should be the end of it?

like a Sheila. Then the Australian lost it.

The foreigner would be in a much better position had he not broken the mirror.

Is "I'm the victim" going to join the brake failure excuse for bad driving list?

What an utter waste of 5

minutes of life reading this complete drivel. Ouch the mirror of an extremely courteous van driver was hurt by a nasty violent out of control Australian criminal. In what universe does that constitute any kind of news??? ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sounds like Monnapan picked a road rage incident with the wrong foreigners. He didn't seem too keen to get out of the van the second time after he'd seen the occupants of the car.

No doubt if the odds had been 3 to 1 in his favour he'd have done much more than break a wing mirror.

Either way, had this been in Australia he'd have been ironed out across the road. I'd say he got off lucky.

Indeed.

Off to the Police after initiating the confrontation then losing face. Predictable.

I know how I view the reputation, driving habits and road attitude of Phuket minivan drivers, airport taxi and the islands tuk tuks.
