A grisly accident late yesterday evening between a souped-up street racer pick-up truck and a motorbike claimed the life of a woman. The offending vehicle, suspected of being illegally modified for racing, fled the scene, prompting a further investigation by local police.

The unfortunate incident transpired around 11pm yesterday near the entrance of the Thung Klom Tan-Man area in the Nong Prue district, Bang Lamung, Chon Buri province. Sub-Inspector (Inquiry) Siriyaporn Kongpetsak from Nong Prue Police Station, received an emergency call about a pick-up truck ramming into a motorbike. Responding promptly, she arrived with the rescue team Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya at the scene of the accident.

Upon arrival, they found a Yamaha Grand Filano motorbike, registered in Chon Buri, heavily damaged in the front due to the impact. The biker, a 39 year old woman named Songkran (surname withheld) was killed instantly from severe neck injuries. After verifying her death, police draped her body in a white cloth, and pushed back morbid onlookers while a further investigation ensued, reported KhaoSod.

A 23 year old eye-witness of the accident named Kotchakorn (surname withheld), relayed that she saw a black pick-up truck, the make of which she was uncertain, with the appearance of a modified racer. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a roadside electric post. After the collision, the pickup truck hastily fled, leaving behind a fallen motorbike and its injured rider.

Looked like a street racer does not mean he was street racing.

Must have been.

Seems to me the police and ambulances should carry a red blanket for that, a white one showing seeping blood I would thought would be more grisly

A few months ago I was standing outside my house just off of the road looking for my dog. Then a pickup, racing another, came from the opposite way to which I was looking and on the wrong side of the road and so far over that it missed hitting me by a couple of inches. It was so close I felt the heat of the engine. I was kind of hoping they'd crash down the road and kill themselves but it wasn't to be. Not then, anyway.

I was not in Thailand long when driving North in the Ayutthaya area I came face to face with 2 sports cars racing the wrong way, and I had to get over to the left as far as I could..... probably above the law hi-sos!

We had an incident one night on a dual carriageway. We were in the fast lane and a car was coming straight at us. It was after dark and I assume the driver was too drunk to realise that he/she was on a dual carriageway and thought they were in their own left lane. You are never safe when out and about in this country.

When he feels that police is getting close he will show up at police station and apologizes for his action. "Just as usual"

The heat from the engine you say..................

Why do I not believe you ?

I saw a racing pick up, recently at a petrol station, with 2 nitro bottles fitted on the tray, and was wrapped in black, lots of expensive

add-ons, the young driver must have spent a fortune.

Why should I care what you believe. I know that I did, but thank you for your pointless comment.

I believe Barry. It happened to me too.

Yes a dead body on the road is nothing to pause and take a look at, eh?

I was a paramedic for over 20 years, seen more than my share of dead bodies, but I'll still pause for a moment if/when I see a dead body on the road.  You don't?

Only bad publicity prompts police activity. I spotted two of Pattaya's invisible police yesterday: one was counting plastic traffic cones on Thepprasit whilst all about him red-light runners & queue dodgers turned two lanes into four; the other was at the busy Kao Talo/Railway road junction - he wasn't doing anything whilst mayhem took place all about him.

They need to get these maniacs off the road.

Those that hit-and-run should see lengthy jail sentences without exception.
