Pattaya-Eighteen Chinese tourists were uninjured but shaken up after a tour bus slammed into a tree near the Bali Hai Pier this morning, with the bus driver blaming brake failure.

Captain Natthaphon Sangsri of the Pattaya City Police was notified of the accident on Saturday morning (September 23rd) down a hill near the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the damaged tour bus stuck between two trees. Eighteen Chinese tourists were found panicked and shaken up by the accident but no one was injured.

  • Nah, can't have been brake failure.   From the position of the tree, it looks like it stepped out in front of the bus and the driver made a valiant attempt to avoid hitting it.

It seems as though brakes in Thailand are of very poor quality... every other crash of which there are many is due to the brakes failing... it would be wise of the Thai's to buy better brakes.

According to the "full story" on the link, the driver poked the bus in there on purpose after the brakes failed and to avoid any further mishap further down the road.

Looks like it's on top of a hill so could be correct in this instance.

Possible near the blue Pattaya Tai Pier sign on the way in.

Why even report this, it's a natural occurrence here! :jap:

Are these the same brakes that were used while parking in the hills in Pratamnak.  Let's all be thankful the Tree stepped up and took one for the team.  It would Not be good for tourism if those Chinese tourists had something more serious happen to them.

So we can get some traffic, the usual Thai driving comments, the likely  lie over what happened, and maybe a bit of glee over the inconveniencing of a group of Chinese tourists,

All going back to China with fond memories of Thailand...

It would be an irony if the bus was made in China wouldn't now?

Au contraire, at least he stuck around to tell is story instead of running away.

The driver hasn't followed the correct procedure following any accident .....    he's suppose to do a runner from any accident scene.   ????

The breaks were made in China

Besides brake pads, brake lights on cars and motor bikes and all auto lights must be the most expensive in the World.  Ordinary folk don't seem able to afford them.

Probably more scared of the Chinese passengers chasing after him.

Maybe he was just on the phone and not Pished again. :giggle:

So the bus was carrying Chinese tourists!

Nice to see normal service is being resumed after the disruption of the last few years!

In a previous court case the white buses owned by Chinese where returned to them.  Poetic justice perhaps.

Drove it into the tree to stop the bus OK then if you say so matey, No time to change into a lower gear and turn the engine off. Were they air brakes? was it manual or auto?

We will never know.

Not any more, no!

Using brakes to control the descent, I assume, rather than gears; would be technically break failure.

Thailand seems to be the Bermuda Triangle of break failure.

Eerie.

brake failure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   rubbish modern vehicles dont FAIL

Next time you are driving, change to the lowest gear you can, double de-clutch if you know how and kill the engine. quite easy if you know how to drive.
