Surveillance footage showed the bus from route 558 speeding down Rama II Road

No vehicle should be speeding in a built up area, ever. In most countries they understand that.

The CCTV did not appear to show it "speeding".

  • Do they ever actually check these vehicles when they claim the brakes failed?

  • So . there were stationary vehicles and the bus  driver has not noticed this until it is to late , he tried to brake and his brakes couldn't stop him in time from colliding at a fair rate of knots wit

Brake failure in Thailand means the driver is unable to correctly judge the stopping distance and was going too fast to stop in time. Nothing to do with mechanical failure. Surveillance footage showed

Yes, it's as close as they'll ever get!

Not a brake failure. More like the bus not allowing adequate space for braking. Some idiot bus drivers think they’re driving a racing car.

Make from 'some' but many.

You are correct, in the latest news the driver now admits pressing the accelerator by mistake. I wonder if he had any training on an electric bus.

This is getting monotonous,Time to find the Real problem or a different Story.

Me always thinks that it is Brail Failure.

Do the drivers have training on diesel buses?

Bangkok Public EV Bus Driver Admits to Lying About Brake Failure

The driver of a public electric bus admitted to dozing off at the wheel and accidentally pressing the accelerator, which resulted in a massive car accident in Bangkok on September 26th. The man initially told Thai media that the accident was caused by a brake failure.

The accident took place in Bangkok’s Chom Thong district during rush hour at 8 AM yesterday on the busy Rama II Road. A public EV bus of route 558 was reported to suddenly ram into other vehicles, resulting in a massive car pile-up and a temporary closure of the road. Over 14 vehicles were involved in the accident.

Rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the site to provide first aid to 18 injured people. The accident created a blockage that obstructed all four lanes of Rama II Road.

The videos of this wreck are all over the net, why not here?

They don't want us bored with unexplained repeat brake failure reports.

Plenty of inertia with an EVs enhanced weight.

This country needs an annual inspection like Britain's MOT. I ask sick of sharing roads with old pick ups and lorries belching out black smoke, looking like they have never ever been washed and with faulty brakes.

They have one, but everyone passes ????

Brake failure, Micro Naps, Wet Roads all may be part of the cause of an accident, but they are not an excuse ... negligence should be prosecuted.  Saying you had brake failure does not excuse you from the results of your negligence.

Modern technology same old excuse.

bus with faulty brakes

It's a new bus, I've seen the old 50 year old buses stop.

Incompetence (driver or mechanic).

Too many reports of accidents blaming 'faulty brakes'

We never hear the truth ????

Problem is the fines and compensation payouts here are very low compared to other countries, A relative of mine in the UK got run over by a speeding bus, and got paid out 250,000 GBP.

Twice?

Lots of newer vehicles can be set to automatically brake when it senses you are in danger of a collision.

But we just did.

Maybe the bus driver needs to get ready for the manufacturer launching a defamation suit.

OK, I just heard on the local radio station that the bus driver fell asleep.

As I said, nothing to do with faulty brakes.

Posting should be edited.

How about changing the article headline to 'Incompetant bus driver falls asleep blaming brake fault' ????

Did you read the linked article? What you've written has no connection to what happened, none at all.

So many comments here from people who read a headline but can't be bothered to read the report before posting. Memo to them: Doing that makes you look foolish.

This is video of it and it clearly shows that bus was not slowing down which it should from hitting others. So finding out it wasn't brake failure isn't much of a surprise...
