There's no checks such as that nowadays.

I hope they are going to some serious jail time before then being thrown out.

Elite does next to nothing when doing criminal background checks. They don't require applicants produce anything from their home country. At least not anymore (not since 2021 anyways). All they do is a simple INTERPOL search. And the search is only as good as the search perimeters the IO uses when reviewing the application. And if this character used his Vanuatu  passport to apply for his elite, he'd have nothing to worry about if he had no criminal record in Vanuatu.

Interesting, especially when a Thai man who did 5+ years in jail in Australia for drug offences is now a minister in the Thai government.

Would be 'Mafia' types in the UK have Pit Bulls and Dobermans but Lions is a whole different matter. Looks like they don't have dogs just patroling the grounds and biting intruders - they have Lions eating them!!
