Currently in what attractions are elephant rides available in Chiang Mai?

Think they've all gone woke and stopped rides.

You could try cruising the road to Doi Intathanon where they had 4 or 5 places doing rides.

Elephant rides are animal cruelty, the spine is not made to carry that weight, elephants are schlepping animals, not carrying animals

A lot of the elephant camps are inhumane tourists attractions. As opposed to riding a whipped into submission elephant, I’d suggest visiting some of the actual humane sites that are in the Ban Huai Takrai, Mae Wang area. 

A lot of places have stopped the elephant rides now.

Something much better has replaced it.

Now there is a better way to interact with the animal without sitting on it.

You get to take it for a walk,just like a dog.

A mahout will of course be with you and you are handed a bunch of bananas to feed the elephant

while you are walking.

A very nice experience and after you can shower the animal and feed it some more.

We did this not long ago and it was really nice.

This was not up North but in Hua-hin.

When I went to Patara elephant farm a few years ago, I enjoyed riding on top of the elephant sitting as a mahout does without a platform. A bit scary and not cheap.

Riding an elephant in Chiang Mai was one of the scariest things I've done, far worse than skydive, elephant goes rogue whilst mahout has a fag.

They can feel out the rider. If you seem weak they go rogue. They could also just be having a bad day. It also helps if the mahout does not have a fag. Ask my buddy Ostrich about that one, he never has a fag because it adds to the air pollution up there.

sure, I had my coffee at 5:00 a.m. but I will surely go back to sleep...

You're getting confused with horses, elephants are much bigger and have a trunk, not the car variety

Depends on the weight and frequency / duration. An horse is also not made to carry 2 overweight XXL foreigners.
